Sadie Kathleen Blue Wisdom
On July 4th 1904 Sadie Kathleen Blue Wisdom
was born to Nathaniel Potter Blue and Mary Ella – Avera – Blue.
Sadie and her family lived in Fostoria, Texas until the age
of 3 when the family moved to Plum Grove. Sadie was the
second child of seven. Her mother died when she was 11 years old, leaving
her to assume the duties of caring for her siblings and her father. Sadie
had never gone to school so at the age of 20; she left home to live with
her grandfather and grandmother Avera in Coldspring, Texas, where she attended
school for 2 years. Alzeda and Elgin Matthews assisted her to go to Mary
Hardin Baylor Academy where whe finished grammar school, high school, and
then enrolled in college there receiving a degree in Art in 1934. By the
age of 27 she had accomplished all this, and after graduating from college
she taught in Evergreen and Magnolia Community. In 1935 she met and married
Dee Roy Wisdom, sadly he died in 1967, at the time of his death she was
teaching in Goodrich for Thurman Patterson, Superintendent.
Sadie later retired and
moved to Cleveland. Sadie came out of retirement and taught in Tarkington
once again for Mr. Patterson. In 1971 Sadie and another lady taught the
first kindergarten at Tarkington. Once again she retired and
took up her hobbies
of painting drawing and crocheting. She has out lived all her siblings
and though she had no children of her own, she has several
nieces, nephews and
great nieces and nephews who have been inspired by her life. Her motto
is education is important and anyone can achieve it if you
wish to.
