DeBlanc

Dorothy J. Mayo DeBlanc 75, of Ames, died Thursday, November 2, 2006, at the Sam Houston Gardens Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday November 8, 2006, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints in Liberty with burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services under the diretion of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton

Dorothy was born July 5, 1931 in Houston, to parents; Ivory and Mittie Davis Mayo, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in the Liberty area for the past nine years. She was a retired sales clerk for Battlestein’s, Frost Brothers, and Craig’s clothing stores, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Liberty, graduate of the Phyllis Wheatley High School class of 1948, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, collecting dolls, and cooking.

Mrs. DeBlanc was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Britt and Maurice Mayo, grandmother: Cora Lovick, and three grandsons: Nathan, Allen, and Terry, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 47 years: Walter DeBlanc of Ames, daughters: Regina Pinkney of Houston, Sandra Howard of Houston, Beverly Brown of AZ, Cora Broach of Houston, and Jeanne Wiggins of Houston, sons: Marvin Pinkney of El Paso, Reggie Brown of El Paso, Terry Brown of San Diego, and Walter DeBlanc, Jr. of Ames, 34 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

 

Mire

Lloyd Edward Mire, 84 of Dayton died Thursday, November 9, 2006 in Baytown after an extended illness. Born January 31, 1922 in Beaumont, Texas to Samuel Andrew and Olymphe Seeley Mire, moving to Dayton when he was nine years old. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1940 as an outstanding football player and attended Southern Louisiana Institute, now known as University of Southern Louisiana. He retired from Amaco after 37 years.

Mire was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton, the Masonic Lodge #825, Eastern Star #233 Worthy Patron, Knights Templer of Texas #6, and the American Legion Post #512. He served on the City of Dayton Water Board and was an honorary member of the Dayton Historic Society. Mire served in the U. S. Army during World War II, 1942-1946, in the Field Artillery Battalion #265, European Theater. He received three bronze stars.

Services for Lloyd Mire will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Dayton with the Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Mr. Mire was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Clarence Joseph Mire. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lura Spencer Mire of Dayton.

For those who desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the First Baptist Church of Dayton or the Gideon Society. The family will receive friends Saturday, 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

 

Croft

Willie B. “Jim” Croft, 89, of Hardin, died Saturday, November 11, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Jim was born March 31, 1917 in Tarkington Prairie, to parents; William L. and Frances Tanner Croft, was a life long resident of Tarkington Prairie and has resided in Hardin for the past three years. He was a retired owner and operator from the timber industry, and member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon of the Simmons Bottom Assembly of God Church. After retirement, Mr. Croft enjoyed working cattle.

Mr. Croft is survived by his daughter: Doris Peters and husband Aubrey of Hardin, grandchildren: Charolette Mercer and husband Charlie of Liberty, Charrisa Holy of Hardin, and Bruce Peters and wife Sheryl of Moss Hill, great-grandchildren: Justin and Jessie Mercer, Casey, Cadey, and Cindy Holy, and Nicole Beal and Jason Peters, great great-grandchildren: James Alan and Amber Nicole Beal, extended family members of three children, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

 

Cervantes

Martin Cervantes, 17, of Dayton died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at home in Dayton, Texas. He was born July 19, 1989 in Dolores Hidalgo Guanajato, Mexico to parents Raphael and Juana Cervantes. He was currently a student at Dayton High School.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2006 at Immaculate Conception Church, Liberty, with Father David Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Mexico. Rosary service will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home , Dayton. Visitation will be all day Thursday at the funeral home.

He is survived by his parents: Raphael and Juana Cervantes of Dayton; six brothers: Oscar Cervantes of Dayton, Ramon Cervantes of Dayton, Raphael Cervantes, Jr. of Dayton, Ernesto Cervantes of Dayton, Juan Antonio Cervantes of Mexico, and Miguel Angel Cervantes of Mexico; sisters: Anna Marivela Cervantes of Dayton and Norma Irais Cervantes of Mexico; also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

Deen

Gary Randall “Randy” Deen, 53, of Dayton died Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at home after an extended illness. He was born December 22, 1952 in Ashdown, Arkansas to parents, N. L. and Juanita Tallant Deen. He had been a resident of the Huffman area since 1968 where he was owner-operator of Deen’s Septic Systems.

Mr. Deen was very active in the Huffman Little League association, serving as President in 93-94, assistant coach for his three sons while they were growing up and participating in the Huffman Youth Athletic Football League. He was affiliated with the Atascocita Community Church.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Huffman. Interment will follow at Huffman Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Mr. Deen was preceded in death by his grandparents: Nazer and Addie Ella Deen, and Perry and Mary Tallant. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years: Sandra Ann Deen of Huffman; his three sons: Gary Clifton Deen and wife Krista of Humble, Travis Randall Deen and wife Misty of Kingwood, and Brent Charles Deen of Lackland AFB; brother: Ricky Ray Deen and wife Leslie of Huffman; sisters: Cathie Ann Deen Ropp and husband Tom of Huffman and Cynthia Kaye Deen Redwine and husband Aubrey of Bellville;

also one grandchild on the way, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Smesny

Joe Frank “Little Joe” Smesny, 83, of Eastgate entered eternal rest Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in Houston after an extended illness. He was born July 26, 1923, in Frýdek, Texas. He was the son of Mary and Papa Joe Smesny who came from Czechoslovakia in 1912. Joe lived his entire life among friends and family in Eastgate Community just West of Dayton. He wed the love of his life, Marveline Bode in October of 1949. Together they raised six children.

He was a longtime cotton and soybean farmer, member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Czech Heritage Society, and past member of the Texas Farmers Union. He enjoyed playing 42 dominoes, old cars, and listening to Czech music.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2006 at St. Anne’s Mission in Eastgate with Father Andy Moore officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2006 at Pace- Stancil Funeral Home with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Marveline Smesny of Dayton, his sisters: Lillian Kulak of Crosby and Eleanor Leibham of Crosby; his brothers: Jerry Smesny of Dayton and Emil Smesny of San Antonio. He is also survived by his sons: Joe Smesny and wife Andrea of Kingwood, Frank Smesny and wife Laurie of Kingwood, and Jim Smesny and wife Peggy of Eastgate; his daughters: Cynthia Norwood and husband Larry of Kirtland, Ohio, Dolly Stokes and husband Jim of Little Rock, Arkansas, Sheri Rice of Dayton, also six precious grandchildren: Joseph, Lauren, Lisa, Sarah, Ford, and Frank. He was loved by many friends, cherished by his entire family and will be greatly missed by all.

 

Roe

Charles P. Roe, 59, of Tarkington Prairie, died Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in Humble, Texas. He was born October 18, 1947 in Homerville, Georgia to parents: Johnnie Edward and Rosa Andrews Roe. He was a 1966 graduate of high school in Tampa, Florida and had been a resident of the Huffman area for the past 27 years. Mr. Roe had been an employee of Kinder Morgan for the past 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting was his great passion.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with the Rev. Mike Blackburn officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. Visitation will be Sunday morning, 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Roe is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Emmal Dyal and Frances Gilbert.

He is survived by his wife: Terrie Roe of Huffman; daughters: Misty Mallet Creel and husband Ricky of Highlands, Jacklyn Crissy Roe of Porter; sons: Timm Gunn of Huffman and Chris Gunn of Austin; step-sons: Lynndele Langley of Houston, Charles Lyons of Houston, Timothy Tyler Thompson of North Carolina; sisters: Abanell Rose Pouchton, Minnie Lee, and Johnnie Faye Vest all of Homerville, Georgia; brother: James Ottis Roe of Houston, Texas; and his ex-wife: Debra Wuneburger of Dayton; also eight grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

 

Cummings

Joseph Patrick Cummings, 60, of Kenefick died suddenly on Thursday, November 16, 2006. He was born September 26, 1946 in Houston, Texas to parents Walter and Alice Bernadean Cummings. He was a graduate of Galena Park High School in 1965 and was currently employed with Catsi. Joseph “Joe” was a naval veteran, loving husband, and father. He was an excellent worker in his field and a friend to all who met him.

Services for Mr. Cummings will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Houston.

He was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his loving wife of 38 years: Molly Diann Cummings of Dayton; mother: Bernadean Cummings of Houston; son: Dallas Brian Patrick Cummings and wife Jena of Baytown; daughter: Carrie Cummings and husband Jason De La Cruz of College Station; sister: Patricia Jernigan and husband Arvie of Troop; grandsons: Zachary Patrick and Keegan Dallas of Baytown.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

 

Keck

John Layne “Joker” Keck, 37, of Kenefick died peacefully Friday, November 17, 2006 at Heritage Villa after an extended illness. He was born August 28, 1969 in Caldwell, Texas to parents, John Joe and Camellia Ann Adcock Keck and lifelong resident of Kenefick. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1987 and was currently employed with Tri-County MHMR in Liberty.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton with Rev. Jeff Day officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

John Layne was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother: Camellia Adcock Keck of Kenefick and his brothers: Charles Keck and wife Ami of Odessa and Dana Joe “D.J.” Keck of Kenefick; nieces and nephews: Cody Keck, Kali Keck, Taylor Keck, and Zachery Curry; also a host of other friends and relatives.

 

Janak

Bessie Marie Janak, 81, of Splendora, Texas passed away November 19, 2006 born in Plantersville, Texas on April 14, 1925. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 21, 2006, 1:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Plantersville Cemetery.

 

Austin

Betty E. Ferguson Austin, 56, of Thicket, died Monday, November 20, 2006 in Cleveland. She was born March 17, 1950 in Liberty, Texas to parents Linnie Ferguson and A.V. Gore. She had been a long time resident of Hardin before moving to Thicket six years ago. Mrs. Austin enjoyed shopping, quilting, doing crafts, and cooking for her family. She most of all loved her grandchildren and family.

Services for Mrs. Austin will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Love and Rev. Jim Simpkins officiating. Interment will follow at Moss Hill Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Austin will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father: Linnie Ferguson, mother: A. V. Gore Briscoe, stepfather: Keller Briscoe, brother: Lonnie Ferguson, nephews: Donnie and Kenny Ferguson. She is survived by her husband of 39 years: Robert Austin, Sr. of Thicket, Daughters: Lisa Nugent and husband Gerald of Hardin, Cynthia Cook and husband Danny of Hardin, Sons: Dickie Austin and wife Tina of Thicket, Robert Austin, Jr. of Thicket, and William Harvey Austin and Tiffany Hanks of Batson, Sisters: Virginia Jasper and Wanda Davis, Brothers: Linnie Ferguson and wife Shirley, Donnie Ferguson and wife Verline, Roy Ferguson, Avie Lee Ownby and wife Melissa, and Jerry Wayne Ferguson; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Foxworth

Annie Mae Foxworth, 84, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2006. She was born in Cleveland, Texas on June 6, 1922 to Scott and Vanna Atkinson whom preceded her in death along with her loving husband, R.A. Foxworth; sons, R.B. Foxworth, Billy Wayne Foxworth; and her daughter, Ella Faye Scott.
She is survived by her son, Elbert Foxworth and wife, Tina; daughter, Ella Mae Taylor; daughter-in-law, Gladys Foxworth; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many other loving family members and caring friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 24, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Rev. Melvin Holifield conducted the service with interment at Morgan Cemetery, Splendora, Texas.

 

Sonka

Loretta Ayn Jones Sonka, 34, of LaPorte, died November 24, 2006. She was born November 28, 1971 in Jasper, Texas to her parents, Tommy and Nancy Jones.

She was a 1989 graduate of Dayton High School, where she was a member of the Bronco Band and the Bronco Flags. Loretta was a very active member of the First Baptist Church, Dayton. She enjoyed cooking for “My Boys” as she referred to her husband and son and she had a great talent for making jewelry that was enjoyed by many and she loved to sing.

A memorial service for Mrs. Sonka will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2006 at

Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. A graveside service was held at the Singleton Family Cemetery at Burnett, Texas on Monday, November 27, 2006.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Sonka of LaPorte; her son: A. J. “Snuggle Bear” of LaPorte; her mother-in-law: Virginia “Mackie” Hollis of La Porte; her uncle and aunt: Jim and Ruth Mika of Dayton; her mother: Nancy Accardo of Beaumont; her father: Tommy Jones of Cleveland; her sisters: Ronnie, Sommer, and Courtney; her brothers: Clayton and Robbie and her grandmother: Fay Mika of Jasper.

 

Coffin

William P. “Bill” Coffin, 58, of Dayton, died Monday, November 27, 2006, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with burial following at the National Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Bill was born November 13, 1948 in Hereford, to parents; Harry L., Jr. and Vinnie Brice Coffin, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 16 years. He was a graduate of the Hereford High School class of 1967, veteran of the US Army with service during Vietnam, member of the Hereford VFW Post, I & E Inspector for Enterprise with 15 years of employment, and enjoyed fishing, flying, cooking, and aircraft and other mechanics.

Mr. Coffin was preceded in death by his parents and son: Anson Lee Coffin. He is survived by his wife of 20 years: Jane Mooney Coffin of Dayton, daughters: Hillery Hoffmeyer and husband Craig of Spring, Doris Bunnell and husband Mark of Shinnston, W.V., Savanah Coffin of Hereford, Rachel Gillespie and husband David of Dayton, and Taylor Coffin of Dayton, seven grandchildren, sisters: Jeannie Coffin of Hereford and Rema Collier and husband Ronnie of Hereford, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
