Andrus
Pearl Dabney Andrus, 93, of Cleveland died Friday, December
1, 2006 in Cleveland after an extended illness. She was
born May 11, 1913 in Saratoga, Texas to parents: Joe and
Hattie Havard Dabney. She had been a resident of the area
for over 69 years and was a member of the Rural Shade Baptist
Church.
Services for Mrs. Andrus will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December
3, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with
Rev. Bryon Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at
Ryan Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of
69 years, Joe T. Andrus; her brothers: Robert, Jack, and
Mack Dabney; her sisters: Berta Mae Guthrie and Hattie Opal
Harris. She is survived by her son: Jerry Andrus and wife
Carla of Baytown and her daughter: Jo Ann Welch and husband
Jim of Hardin; her grandchildren: Dana and Mark Pittman,
Tina and Craig Pagett, David and Michelle Welch, Terry and
Kim Andrus, Jake Andrus, Paul and Natalie Welch; great-grandchildren:
Jacob and Shay Coe, Codi Pittman, Justin Andrus, Zackery,
Josh and Haily Welch, Alex and Conner Andrus, and Carley
Welch; her caregiver: Mary Zelaya.
The family will receive friends, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.,
Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
Carmichael
Hugh Preston “Duke” Carmichael, 52, of Dayton
died Sunday, December 03, 2006 at home surrounded by his
family. He was born February 18, 1954 in Dayton, Texas to
parents: James P. and Dora Ada Neuman Carmichael. He graduated
from Kountze High School in 1972 and attended both Lee College
and Lamar University. Mr. Carmichael had lived in this area
since 1979 and was employed by Island Operations as a lease
operator. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golfing
and being with his friends and family, especially his pets.
Services for Mr. Carmichael will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday,
December 5, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Interment will follow
at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. The family will receive
friends 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, December 04, 2006 at
Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister:
Cindy Carmichael. He is survived by his wife: Kay Graceland
Carmichael of Dayton; his mother: Dora Ada Neuman Carmichael
of Dayton; his brother: David T. “Boo” Watson
and wife Jana, of Nacogdoches; nephew: Preston Watson, and
niece: Avery Watson. He is also survived by his puppies:
Scruffy, Daisy, Bentley, Roxy, and Mary Catherine, and his
kittens: Pooh, Abby, and Smokey.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations
to the American Cancer Society.
Long
Joy J. Long, 75, of Houston, died Tuesday, December 5,
2006 in Houston, Texas. She was born May 16, 1931 in Flatonia,
Texas to parents: Willie and Grace Grey Foxworth. She was
a resident of the Tarkington Prairie area for over 40 years
where she enjoyed her yard, gardening, doing arts and crafts.
Service for Mrs. Long will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December
8, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton. Interment
will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband:
Mahlon Long; the father of her children: Curtis Vandver;
her sister: Ila Mae Moses, and two brothers: Charles and
Jerry Foxworth. She is survived by her sons: Curtis W. Vandver
of Houston, and Richard L. Vandver and wife Amy of Tarkington
Prairie; her daughters: Rebecca Vandver Adkins and husband
Perry of Houston, Kathy Vandver West and husband A.C. of
Houston, and Dawn Long Moreno and husband David of New Braunfels;
her grandchildren: Jimmy, Amanda, Taylor, Stacey, Cindy,
Curtis Lee and Brieanna; four great-grandchildren; her sisters:
Jean Grant of Houston, Betty Minks of Houston and Virginia
of Houston; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.

Walters
Cheri Lynn Walters, 45, of Dayton, died Sunday, December
10, 2006 in Houston after an extended illness. She was born
February 17, 1961 in San Antonio, Texas. She was currently
employed by Chelsea Catering in Houston.
Services for Mrs. Walters will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday,
December 13, 2006 at the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church
with the Rev. Jeff Day officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday
beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to services at Kenefick Southern
Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons: Steven Singleton of Kenefick,
D.J. Walters of Kenefick, Arturo Chavira of Kenefick, Jonathon
Chavira of Kenefick, Bobby L. Ervin of Beaumont and Neal
R. Ervin of Kerrville; her mother: Barbara L. Cogburn of
Kenefick; her sisters: Denece L. Cote of New Braunfels,
Virginia Haddock of Summerset; also numerous, nieces, other
relatives, and friends.
WILLIAMS
Murdelyn Adina Williams, of New York and mother to Dr.
Balmore Williams, passed away December 12, 2006. Funeral
services were held at Harvest Time Evangelistic Center,
Houston, Texas with interment at Klein Memorial Park, Tomball,
Texas.
Calhoun
Don E. Calhoun, 66, of Liberty died Tuesday, December 12,
2006 at home after an extended illness. He was born July
22, 1940 in Bratt, Florida to parents, Garland E. and Levonia
Powell Calhoun. He had been a resident of the Liberty area
for over 50 years. Before retiring Mr. Calhoun worked as
a truck driver for Lowe Oil Company for over 20 years. He
was a member of the South Liberty Pentecostal Church. He
enjoyed music, and playing the guitar especially at the
nursing home. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren
and he enjoyed camping.
Services for Mr. Calhoun will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday,
December 16, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with
interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation
will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2006 at
Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter:
Franceen Calhoun. He is survived by his daughters: Cynthia
“Cindy” D. Burns and husband Bobby of Hull,
LaDonna L. Chandler and husband Jeff of Spring; his son:
Donal E. Calhoun, Jr. and wife Marlene of Humble; seven
grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his sisters: Joe
Ann Tidwell of Daisetta and Frances Hall of Liberty; also
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Schmidt
Nancy Fay Stokes Schmidt, 56, of Dayton, died Tuesday,
December 12, 2006 in Baytown, Texas. She was born February
7, 1950 in Glenwood, Wisconsin to parents, Elroy and Lorraine
C. Blerke Stokes. She graduated from Hastings High School
and had been a resident of Hull before moving to the Dayton
area 9 years ago where she worked as the plant secretary
for the Huntsman corporation. She enjoyed collecting Barbie
dolls and porcelain dolls. She also enjoyed crochet and
motorcycles.
Services for Mrs. Schmidt will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday,
December 16,2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints in Liberty with Brother Mike Deveaux officiating.
Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery under the
direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her father and is survived
by her son: James Schmidt and wife Kim of Porter, grandchildren:
Samantha Rose Tepley and James A. Schmidt, III; her mother:
Lorraine C. Harr of Wisconsin; brother: Jim Stokes of Wisconsin;

Holbrook
John David Holbrook, 81, of Dayton died Wednesday, December
20, 2006. He was born December 8, 1925 in Liberty County
to parents, A.C. and Ellen Nelson Holbrook. A lifelong resident
of Dayton, he graduated from Dayton High School and attended
Southern Methodist University where he played football.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December
22, 2006 at Magnolia Park Cemetery with Rev. Jon Stouffer
officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil
Funeral Home, Dayton.
Mr. Holbrook was preceded in death by his parents: A.C.
Holbrook, Sr. and Ellen Nelson Holbrook and one brother:
A.C. Holbrook, Jr. He is survived by his brothers: Virgil
“Buddy” Holbrook and wife Linda of Dayton, Bruce
Holbrook and wife Betty of Dayton; his sisters: Evelyn Waldrop
of Dayton, Juanita Rizzo and husband Sam of Madisonville;
his sister-in-law: June Holbrook of Dayton; numerous nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jones
Harry E. Jones, 62, of Dayton, died Thursday, December
21, 2006 in Houston.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday,
December 27, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton
with burial following at San Jacinto Cemetery in East Houston.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m.,
with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements
are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in
Dayton.
Harry was born January 7, 1944 in Livingston, to parents;
James H. and Josephine Patterson Jones, and has resided
in the Dayton area for the past 40 years. He was a graduate
of Dayton High School class of 1962, veteran of the US Army
with service during the Vietnam War, and a retired operator
for Chevron Chemical Plant in Mont Belvieu with 28 years
of employment. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and
hunting was as his greatest passion.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived
by his wife: Joan A. Redler Jones of Dayton; son: Gene Jones
and wife Sandy of Dayton; grandson: Phillip Jones of Dayton,
sisters: Donna Vae Hughes and Sharon Ann Gradyson, his dog:
Kiddo, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
In lieu of usual floral remembrances, the family requests
that donations be made to the American Heart Association,
the Ronald McDonald House, and/or the American Cancer Society,
in Harry’s memory.
Stotts
Charles Bennett Stotts, 77, passed away Friday, December
22, 2006. He was born in Knott, Texas on April 30, 1929.
Graveside services were held December 26, 2006 at Ryan Cemetery,
Cleveland, Texas.
WEST
Michael Anthony West, 35, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away
Saturday, December 23, 2006. He was born in Liberty, Texas
to Shannon Boyd West and Cheryl Ann Lee on April 23, 1971.
He is survived by his parents; sons, Aaron West and Brandon
West; one brother Joseph West with many aunts, uncles and
other loving family members and caring friends.
Dr. Don M. Shannon will conduct Memorial services will
be held Saturday, December 30, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at First
Baptist Church of Coldspring, Coldspring, Texas.
Mosby
Anne Baird Mosby, age 92, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away
Sunday, December 24, 2006. She was born in Trinity, Texas
on November 28, 1914 to Jim and Janie Tanner Baird.
She is survived by her Step Son, Robert Mosby and wife,
Patsy, Charles Reese; great-grandchildren, Katie Reese,
Michael and Luke Mosby; granddaughter-in-law, Jan Mosby;
sister, Mary Cowling; She is preceded in death by husband,
James “Skeeter” Mosby and grandson, Paul Mosby.
Services were held Wednesday, December 27, 2006, 11:00
at First Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas interment, Cleveland
Memorial Park Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
PATRICK
Kathryn Patrick, age 82 of Coldspring, Texas, passed away,
Thursday, December 28, 2006. She was a lifelong resident
of Coldspring and was an SHSU graduate, schoolteacher, and
community leader. She and her husband Jack, operated Patrick’s
Landing for many years. She was born December 31, 1923 to
Julian and Kate McMurrey Browder. She is survived by her
Sons, Michael Patrick and wife, Grace; Jack Patrick and
wife, Trish; Daughter, Martha Blume and husband, Michael.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 31, 2006,
3:00 p.m. at Coldspring Methodist Church, Coldspring, Texas.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 30,
2006 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Coldspring.
Dr. Shannon will officiate with interment at Oakwood Cemetery,
Coldspring, Texas.
Rodriguez
Joel Arturo Rodriguez, 35, of Dayton died Friday, December
29, 2006 in Pearsall, Texas. He was born September 16, 1971
in Mexico to parent Manuel and Maria Rodriguez. He had been
a resident of Dayton for the past 11 years after moving
from Pasadena. He was currently working for Jacobs’s
Field Service as a supervisor. He loved his family and children.
He enjoyed animals, soccer, working in the yard and cars.
Services for Mr. Rodriguez will be 12 noon, Wednesday,
January 3, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with
Father Thuc Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow at
St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Eastgate.
He is survived by his wife Tammy Sandor Rodiguez of Dayton;
his daughters: Alisia Rodriguez and Bianca M. Rodriguez
of Dayton; his sons: Daniel Gonzalez-Rodriguez and Joel
A. Rodriguez, Jr. of Dayton; his parents: Manuel and Maria
Rodriguez of Mexico; his brothers: Manuel H. Rodriguez,
Cesear A. Rodriguez and Fabian Rodriguez all of Mexico;
also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and
friends.

Johnson
Lela Jo Nixon Johnson, 59, of Huffman died Saturday, December
30, 2006 in Beaumont, Texas at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She
was born June 2, 1947 in Jasper, Texas to parents: Robert
Jolly and Mary Kathleen Slover Nixon. She was currently
at Chevron in Huffman and had previously worked at Lewie’s.
Services for Mrs. Johnson will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday,
January 3, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with
interment at Ryan Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband
George Dacus Johnson, Jr.. She is survived by her son: Raymond
Johnson of Lafayette, Louisiana; her sister: Linda Sue LeBleu
of Huffman; her brother: Al Nixon of Los Angeles, California
and her nephew: Reid LeBleu of Huffman.
Cox
Mary Louise Cox, 60, of Dayton, died Saturday, December
30, 2006 at Liberty-Dayton Hospital in Liberty. She was
born October 10, 1946 in Cleveland to parents: Herman and
Katherine Thornton Scholz. She had been a life long resident
of Liberty County. Mary loved gardening, going to the Harris
County I. T. May Activity Center, spending time with her
family, going to church and doing for others. Mary was loved
by all that knew her and could always bring a smile to people’s
faces. Her family and friends feel blessed to have her in
their lives and will miss her greatly.
Services for Mrs. Cox will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January
3, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Brother
Dean Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan
Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie.
Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents and her sister
Ruby. She is survived by her husband of 41 years: Richard
E. Cox, Sr. of Dayton; her oldest son: Richard E. Cox, II
and wife Lara; her daughter: Katherine Cox ; her youngest
son: David A. Cox and his wife Sharnell; her grandchildren:
Christopher Cox, Matthew Cox, and Trent Vahldiek; her brother:
John H. Green; her sisters: Dorothy Weaver, Colleen Georgian;
her step-brother: Daniel Burkes and her step-sister: Willadine
Burkes.
