Seymour
Rosa L. “Rose” Broussard Seymour, 76, of Crosby,
passed away Thursday, February 1, 2007, at the Triumph Hospital
in Channelview.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February
5, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton
with burial following at Oakdale Cemetery in Daisetta. Visitation
will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, at the
funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil
Funeral Home in Dayton.
Rose was born July 31, 1930 in Baytown, to parents; Sim
and Bernice Ballinger Broussard. She was a former resident
of Houston and has resided in the Crosby area for the past
30 years. She was a homemaker, NA and AA sponsor, enjoyed
needlework, her pets, watching national geographic and movies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Bruce G.
Parrish; daughter: Michelle Parrish Garner and brother:
N.A. “Newt” Broussard. She is survived by her
husband: Marvin Seymour of Crosby; her daughter: Kathy McRae
and husband Harley of Florida; her son; Kelton Parrish and
wife Kathy of Minnesota; her brother: M.E. “Gene”
Broussard and wife Beulah of Big Thicket; nieces: Cindy,
Jeannie, Renee, and Theresa; nephew: Larry; grandchildren:
Natashia, Melanie, Meagan, Trey, and Nicolaus; great-grandchildren:
Kristina, Graeme, Mikayla Rose, Katelyn, and Katia.
Burditt
Becky Burditt, 63, of Dayton, passed away Thursday, February
1, 2007 in Liberty, Texas at Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Burditt will be 2:00 p.m., Monday,
February 5, 2007 at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church with
Rev. Bryan Wallace officiating.
Mrs. Burditt had been a resident of this area for the past
four years, previously of Houston. She enjoyed gardening,
sewing, and her animals. She especially loved her family
and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Burditt was preceded in death by her parents. She
is survived by her husband of 40 years: John “J.C.”
Burditt of Dayton; her sons: Robert Thompson of Houston,
John Burditt of Kenefick, Jack Burditt of Houston, Louie
Gordy and wife Cathy of Houston, Jay K. Burditt and wife
Kim of Barbers Hill; her daughters: Tanya Dee Sones and

Darynne, Jonathan, Jason, Adam, Hailey, Jay, Bryce, Mellissa,

Hoyt
Darlene Markham Hoyt, 81, of Dayton passed away Wednesday,
February 7, 2007 at Liberty-Dayton Hospital. She was born
August 11, 1925 in Illinois to parents, Charles L. and Bessie
Sullivan Markham. She had lived in this area since 1981
and was previously of California. Mrs. Hoyt worked for many
years as a dorm director for Blinn College in Brenham, Texas
where she was loved by all of her residents. She loved her
family, especially her grandchildren, enjoyed her dogs and
traveling.
Memorial services for Mrs. Hoyt will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday,
February 13, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with Father
David Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00
p.m., at the Houston National Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband:
George Hoyt, sons: Lee and Randy Norton. She is survived
by her daughters: Therese Ungles and husband Willard of
Dayton, and Kimberly Beasley of Dayton; her sons: Mark Beasley
of Reno, Nevada, and Jerry A. Beasley of Dayton; thirteen
grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Porter
Hazel Porter, 87, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Wednesday,
February 7, 2007. She was born in Liberty County, Texas
on February 19, 1919 to Milford C. and Margaret Ham of whom
preceded her in death along with her brothers, Howard Ham,
Woodrow Ham, and Charlie Ham; her sisters, Eunice Jackson
and Lillie Hackelman.
She is survived by her sisters, Nettie Harmon of Old River
Community, Thelma Reed of Dayton, Texas; sisters-in-law,
Clydeen Ham of Old River Community, Erma Adam and husband,
Terry of Cypress, Texas; brothers-in-law, Earl Porter and
wife, Marion, Earsel Porter of Mount Belvieu, Texas and
many other cherished family members and caring friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 9, 2007, 11:00
a.m. Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas with interment
at Magnolia Cemetery, Dayton, Texas.
Boatman
David L. Boatman, 39, of Huffman, died Monday, February
12, 2007, at his residence. He was born September 3, 1967
in Nacogdoches, to parents; William “Bill” Boatman
and Jessie Franklin, a former resident of Baytown, and has
resided in the Huffman area for the past six years. He was
a former offshore electrician for the International Electric
Company of Houston, member of the Cypress Point Baptist
Church, and enjoyed fishing and the beach.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday,
February 17, 2007, at the Huffman Cemetery, with burial
following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 9:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Services
are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in
Dayton.
Mr. Boatman is survived by his wife of 18 years: Tonya
Arnold Boatman of Huffman, son: Cody Arnold of Huffman,
daughters: Amber Arnold of Humble, Ashley Arnold of Atascocita,
and Jessica Boatman of Huffman, one grandchild: Brayden
Yester, father: William “Bill” Boatman and wife
Inez of Houston, mother: Jessie Dillard and husband Ray

Cottrell
Carolyn Fletcher Cottrell, 55, of Dayton, died Tuesday,
February 13, 2007, at her residence.
Carolyn was born November 22, 1951 in Bastrop LA, to parents;
M. D. and Georgia Phillips Fletcher, a former resident of
Baytown, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past
14 years. She was a graduate of Bastrop High School, homemaker,
and enjoyed collecting, antiques, woodworking, sewing, and
spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Cottrell was preceded in death by her parents, and
two brothers. She is survived by her husband: Tom E. Cottrell
of Dayton, daughters: Lisa Cottrell of Cy-Fair and Michelle
Wagner and husband Tim of Victoria, three grandchildren:
Blake Roland and Timothy and Jacob Wagner, brother: M. D.
“Buddy” Fletcher and wife Sheila of Bastrop,
LA, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Memorial services for Mrs. Cottrell will be held at a later

Cooper
Sonya Fredricka Ellison Cooper, 56 of Dayton died February
13, 2007 at Kingwood Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was born August 11, 1950 in Sylacauga, Alabama to parents
Fred and Omitter Guinns Ellison. She had lived in this area
for the past twenty years and had been owner/operator of
Sonya’s in Huffman. She enjoyed crocheting, especially
for her grandchildren.
Memorial Service for Mrs. Cooper will be 4:00 p.m., Friday,
February 16, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in
Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived
by her husband: James Cooper of Dayton; her son: Steven
Cooper and wife Krishna of Baytown; her daughter: Anglea
Reeves and husband Chris of Kingwood; her granddaughters:
Savannah Reeves of Kingwood, Ericka Cooper of Alabama and

Umfrid
Jewel D. Fowler Umfrid, 64, of Dayton, died Friday, February
16, 2007, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday,
February 21, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel
with graveside services at 1:00 p.m., at the Allison Cemetery
in Warren. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.,
Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction
of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Jewel was born December 2, 1942 in Jigger, LA to parents;
Robert Fowler and Carrie Williams, was a former resident
of Crosby, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past
11 years. She was a graduate of the Ft. Necessity High School,
received certification in nursing from the Baytown Technical
School, and a retired home health nurse after 10 years of
service with the Physicians Visiting Nurses of Dayton. She
also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and her yard work.
Mrs. Umfrid was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond
A. “Buck” Umfrid, father: Robert Fowler, and
brother: Walter Lee “Buck” Fowler. She is survived
by her daughters: Rene Russell and husband Robert of Dayton,
Shannon Strybos and husband Gabe of Dayton, and Sherry Hynum
and husband Everette of Dayton, son: Charles Roy Wallace
and wife Brandi of Dayton, mother: Carrie Williams Lishman
of Longview, sisters: Bobbie Jean Arnold of Gilbert, LA,
Margaret Campbell of Crosby, and Maxine Campbell of Ore
City, brother: Robert Fowler of Longview, eight grandchildren,
two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other
relatives, and friends.
Beal
Karen K. “K.K” Beal, 38, of Deer Park, died
Friday, February 16, 2007, in Baytown.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February
20, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial
following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation
will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.., Monday, at the funeral
home. Services are under the direction Pace-Stancil Funeral
Home in Dayton.
Karen was born February 13, 1969 in Pasadena, to parents;
Ronnie Beal, Sr. and Linda Cryer, a former resident of LaPorte,
and has resided in the Deer Park area for the past four
years. She was a graduate of the Dayton High School class
of 1988, member of the Clear Point Church, and was previously
employed as an accounting clerk. She also enjoyed drawing
ad cooking.
Miss Beal was preceded in death by her father: Ronnie Beal,
Sr. and stepfather: James Eubank. She is survived by her
mother: Linda Cryer Tidwell of Deer Park, sisters: Kimberly
Johnston and husband Jason of Deer Park, Lori Eubanks of
Katy, and Deanna Miller and husband Mark of Tomball, brother:
Ronnie Beal, Jr. of Dayton, companion: Richard Street of
Baytown, nine nieces, two nephews, and numerous other relatives,
and friends.
Pounders
Donald Burl Pounders, 61, of Dayton died Thursday, February
22, 2007 at home after an extended illness. He was born
March 11, 1945 in Brady, Texas to parents, Burl and Ethelin
Foreman Pounders. He had been a resident of Dayton for the
past 10 years and was an employee of Schlumberger for over
19 years where he worked as a mechanical technician.
Services for Mr. Pounders will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday,
February 27, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in
Dayton with Rev. Tony Rogers and Rev. Randy Fowler officiating.
Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Earthman’s
Resthaven in Houston. Visitation for Mr. Pounders will be
Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. until service time.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Donald
Gregory Pounders. He is survived by his wife: Martha Pounders
of Dayton and son: Daniel Pounders; also three grandchildren.
Scarbrough
JoLynn Scarbrough, 59, of Dayton, passed away Friday, February
23, 2007 in Houston at Memorial Hermann Hospital. She was
born March 12, 1947 in Houston to parents, Sam and Dane
Norman Giannukas. She had been a resident of this area for
the past 18 years, previously living in Houston. JoLynn
had worked for 13 years as an operator with the Houston
Metro and was currently employed by Renzenberger, Inc. shuttling
for the railroad. She was a former member of the Transport
Workers Local 260. She enjoyed her animals, going on trail
rides, driving, dancing and cooking for her family.
Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February
26, 2007 at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin with Rev. Rex
Forsyth officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00
a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Pace-Stancil
Funeral Home, Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Giannukas
and her brother, Nick Giannukas and is survived by her husband:
Victor Wessels of Dayton; daughter: Janet L. Scharer of
Waco; sons: Tommy Edwards and Patrick Schraer of Waco; her
mother: Dane Norman Joyce of Houston; her brothers: Norman
Giannukas and Tommy Joyce of Houston; four grandchildren;
numerous nieces and nephews.
Garner
Loyd Garner, 58, of Dayton, passed away Friday, February
23, 2007 at his home in Dayton. He was born October 27,
1948 in Morgan City, Louisiana to parents, Loyd, Sr.and
Pearline Lawrence Garner. He had been a resident of this
area for the past 3 years, previously living in Houston.
Loyd was a carpenter by trade. Loyd enjoyed fishing, working
on his land and working with horses. He was an outdoorsman
at heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, and is survived
by his wife: Beverly Garner of Dayton; his sons: Jathan
Garner of Alexandria and Michael Griffith and wife Candy
of Mabank, Texas his daughter: Shaina Garner of Alexandria;
his mother: Pearline Garner of Alexandria; his brothers:
