Zaruba
Jim Zaruba, Sr., 88, of Tarkington Prairie, died Friday,
June 1, 2007 in Baytown after an extended illness. He was
born June 30, 1918 in Dayton, Texas to parents Joseph and
Carolyn Zaruba. He served during World War II in the Army
Calvary and Air Force. Mr. Zaruba farmed for many years
on the Reidland and Guthrie Farms before retiring.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2007 at Pace-Stancil
Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Brother Brad Benoit officiating.
Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation
will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Zaruba was preceded in death by his parents and his
wife Cassie Zaruba. He is survived by his daughter: Melodye
Barta and husband Steve of Kingwood; his son: Jim Zaruba,
Jr. and wife Margie of Baytown; his grandchildren: Jim Lucas
Zaruba of Baytown, Phil and Mary Vera of Spring, Cliff and
Sara Roberts of Houston, Marcus and Jessica Zaruba of Pearland;
great-grandchildren: Thomas Roberts of Houston, and Karyssa
Zaruba of Baytown; step-great-grandchildren: Robert Hernandez,
Joshua Martinez and Janette Martinez of Baytown.
Lewis
Taft Baldwin (PaPa) Lewis, 92, of Liberty, Texas fell asleep
in death on June 1, 2007 in Livingston, Texas. He was born
on July 3, 1914 in Bay City. He was a self-employed handyman
of many trades. He was a very caring person who loved caring
for his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by many
whose life’s he has touched.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Erniter Britton
Babbs Lewis, parents, and four brothers, five sisters and
sons Herbert L. Babbs, Jr. and Nathan Babbs.
He is survived by three daughters: Yolanda Moye and Charles,
Pamela Williams, and Juanita Nolley and Kevin; three sons:
Jessie C. Babbs, Sr. and Patricia, Tommie O. Babbs, Terrence
R. Babbs and Lashanda; also 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren
He was a baptized Jehovah’s Witnesses for over fifty
years and remained faithful until his death.
Services for Mr. Lewis will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June
9, 2007 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses,
3620 Hwy 90 in Liberty, Texas. A special thanks to his niece
and nephew, John Henry Smith of Liberty and Dorothy Lewis
Fisher of West Columbia.
Visitation will be Friday, June 8, 2007 from 1pm. till
5pm at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Ayers
Herchell L. Ayers, 84, of Tarkington Prairie, passed away
at his home, Saturday, June 9, 2007. Herchell was born February
14, 1923 to Floyd Franklin and Bertha Henry Ayers. He served
during World War II in the U.S. Army, 536th Amphibian Tractor
Battalion. He was owner and operator of Fox Vacuum in Daisetta,
Texas. Herchell wed Alta Mae Barnett-Ayers, March 19, 1949.
He is preceded in death by his wife Alta Mae, his parents
and his sister, Opal Carroll. He is survived by his son:
Ray Ayers and wife Lynn; his daughter: Gail Page and husband
Floyd ; grandsons: Jarrod Land and wife Courtney and Dan
Page and wife Lacey; Great-grandsons: Clayton Jake Land
and Peyton Rock Page; brothers: Earl Ayers and wife Mary

Service for Mr. Ayers will be 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, June
12, 2007 at Rural Shade Baptist Church in Tarkington. Interment
will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie.
The viewing will be held Monday, June 11, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Schroeder
Bonny Marcus Schroeder, 82, of Humble, passed away peacefully
Saturday, June 9, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, June
12, 2007, at the Atascocita Presbyterian Church with burial
following at the Huffman Cemetery in Huffman. Visitation
will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the
church. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil
Funeral Home in Dayton.
Bonny was born February 23, 1925 in Flint, MI, to parents;
Angelo and Myra Rumbaugh Marcus, a former resident of Baton
Rouge, and has resided in the Humble area for the past 36
years. She was a graduate of the Flint Northern High School,
member of the Atascocita Presbyterian Church, Lake Houston
Garden Club, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Atascocita Yacht
Club, Atascocita Woman’s Club and enjoyed gardening,
playing bridge, boating, and spending time with her children,
grandchildren and many friends.
Mrs. Schroeder was preceded in death by her parents, husband:
David Eric Schroeder, and brother: Harry Marcus. She is
survived by her son: Mark Schroeder and wife Lucy of Huffman,
daughters: Patty Williams and husband Dan of Humble and
Cindy McCune and husband Bill of Humble, five grandchildren:
Melissa and Kristin Williams, Meredith McCune, and Erika
and Heidi Schroeder, sister: Betty Jane DeLaVergene of Flint,
MI, her dog: Baby, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives,
and friends.
Woosley
David Donald “Don” Woosley, 72, of Dayton died
Sunday, June 10, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born
February 11, 1935 in Coy, Arkansas to parents Luther and
Lena Smith Woosley. He had been a resident of this area
for several years, previously living in Lone Oak, Arkansas.
He had worked for R & R Rental as a painter before retiring.
He enjoyed fishing, working on old cars, and riding his
tractor mowing.
Graveside Services for Mr. Woosley will be 10:00 a.m.,
Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Magnolia Park Cemetery with Rev.
Mike Blackburn officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00
p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Woosley was preceded in death by his parents; mother

Schneiter
Tyler B. “Ty Bug” Schneiter, 7, of Dayton,
died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the Hermann Hospital in
Houston.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday,
June 16, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church with
burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation
will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, at the

Tyler was born September 29, 1999 in Houston, to parents;
Casey and Ashley Boyett Schneiter, and has resided in the
Dayton area throughout his life. He was a student at Stephen
F. Austin Elementary, member of the DYSA pitching machine
Cardinals, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, calf
roping, swimming, and snow skiing.
Tyler was preceded in death by his great-grandfathers:
Keith Mace, Bill Boyett and Ray Schneiter. He is survived
by his parents: Casey and Ashley Boyett Schneiter of Dayton,
sister: Taylar Schneiter of Dayton, grandparents: Terry

Doris Curry Clyburn, 78, of Pasadena, passed away Wednesday,
June 13, 2007 in Houston, Texas. She was born November 27,
1928 in Evadale, Texas to parents, Elby and Bertha Mae Oliver
Curry. She was a long time resident of Hardin where she
was a member of the Hardin Methodist Church.
Services for Mrs. Clyburn will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June
15, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Dayton, with
Rev. Gideon Watson officiating. Interment will follow at
Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Clyburn;

Jackson
Clyde Perry Jackson, Sr., 89, left us to be with his Lord
and Savior on June 14, 2007. He was born October 17, 1917
in Humble, Texas, son of Calvin Pope and Sarah Olive Conner
Jackson. Clyde was a member of the Dayton High School Class
of 1936 and attended Massey Business College. He served
in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired from
maintenance Engineering Corp. in 1993 as Executive Vice
President and was a deacon and financial chairman of the
Garden Villas Baptist Church for over 25 years. He was a
member of the First Baptist Church in Dayton, a member of
the Bromelaid Society International, and the Cryptanthus
Society.
Funeral Services for Mr. Jackson will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday,
June 17, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Dayton with
Rev. Ray Cox officiating. The family will receive friends
5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 15th at the church.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Crystal
Kay Jackson, sisters, Jo Valle Phillips and Janet Ott, son-in-law,
Dennis David. He is survived by his wife: Arlette Wilson
Jackson of Pearland. His sons: Clyde Jackson, Jr. and wife
Veva Jackson of LaMarque, and David Jackson and wife Beth
of League City, and his daughter: Kerry Jackson David of
Coldspring; step-daughters: Bobbie Christenson of Big Fork,

Austin Dean Davis, 14, of Baytown, died Thursday, June
14, 2007. Austin was born in Baytown, Texas on January 19,
1993 to parents, Robert W. Davis and April Fenimore Davis.
Before recently moving to Baytown, he lived in the Dayton
area. He was a 7th grade student at Gentry Jr. High School.
Along with sports, he enjoyed playing on the computer and
video games.
Austin was preceded in death by his grandfather: Franklin
Delano Davis and grandmother: Diana Lynn Fenimore.

Johnson
Lois Lee Williams Johnson, 61, of Liberty passed away,
June 16, 2007 in Houston. She was born December 24, 1945
in Damon, Texas to parents, Bennett Durkee Williams and
Myrtle Schnell. She was a member of the North Main Baptist
Church in Liberty. Lois wrote poetry, belonged to the Christian
Writing Association of Humble, and enjoyed sharing weekly
readings.
She retired after many years as an Administrative Assistant
in the oil and gas industry.
Services for Mrs. Johnson will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday,
June 20, 2007 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Dayton.

Richard Earl Burge, 85, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday,
June 20, 2007 in Liberty after an extended illness. He was
born December 16, 1921 in Cleburne, Texas to parents, William
James and Ethel Dell Crockett Burge. He attended high school
in Houston, graduating in 1941. Mr. Burge proudly served
during World War II in the United States Navy on the USS
Tennessee and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors
Association. He worked for the City of Houston for over
25 years as a City Marshall. He enjoyed hunting, fishing,
gardening, woodworking and carving. Mr. Burge was a member
of the Church of Christ.
Services for Mr. Burge will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June
23, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Rodney
Covington officiating. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m.,
Saturday at Forest Park Lawndale, Houston, Tx. The family
will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday evening,
at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
Mr. Burge was preceded in death by his parents and son,
Richard Earl Burge, Jr. and sister. Helen Cheshier. He is

Carter
Stanley Edward “Eddie” Carter, 58 of Dayton
died Thursday, June 21, 2007. He was born March 12, 1949
in Dayton to parents Alton T. and Virginia Ripkowski Carter.
Eddie was a lifelong resident of Dayton, graduating from
Dayton High School in 1968. He was a member of the Assembly
of God Church, the United Association of Journeymen, and
Pipefitters Local #798. Eddie enjoyed horse racing.
Services for Mr. Carter will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June
24, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles
Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park
Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday
evening at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived
by his brother: Alton Thomas “Tom” Carter, II
and wife Nicki of Dayton; and his sister: Betty Alexander
and husband Chuck of Dayton; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, and a host of friends.
Maddox
John Newton Maddox, 67, of Livingston passed away, Sunday,
June 24, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born December
21, 1939 in Call, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Liberty,
Texas and had worked as a roughneck in the oilfield. He
is preceded in death by his parents: Arthur O. and Joyce
L. Rhame Maddox. He is survived by his friend Estelle Vaughn
of Liberty and numerous cousins. Arrangements are under
the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.
Lawrence
Gerald Key “Jerry” Lawrence, Sr., 84, of Dayton,
passed away at his home Monday, June 25, 2007. He was born
September 26, 1922 in Dayton to parents James V. and Winnefred
R. Key Lawrence. He was a lifelong resident of Dayton, was
a member of the Dayton High School Class of 1940, and was
a veteran of the US Navy where he served during World War
II. Before his retirement, Jerry worked for Brown and Root
as a Millwright in the Gulf Refinery in Mont Belvieu. He
enjoyed computers, woodworking, and vegetable gardening.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton where
he was a former deacon, the VFW, American Legion, and the
Masonic Lodge #825 A.F. & A.M. He had lived in Florida
for nine years before moving back to Dayton.
Services for Mr. Lawrence will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday,
June 28, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with interment
to follow at Linney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to
9:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Joseph
Benton Lawrence, Herbert Alvin Lawrence, sisters: Eunice
Conner, Helena Turner, and Sallie Lawrence; son-in-law:
Gary Montgomery. He is survived by his wife of 23 years:
Nancy Knight Lawrence of Dayton; his daughter: Scharlot
