Dollie Dell Thames Stone, 90, of Dayton, Texas passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Stone was born May 30, 1929 in Lufkin, Texas to parents, William Dennis Thames, Sr. and Claudia King Thames.

Services for Mrs. Stone will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Dayton with Rev. Guy Williams and Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Serving as pallbearers will be Bubba Richter, Fred Ramsey, Tracey Ramsey, Andy Hicks, Mike Clark, Rick Ashley, Don Nelson and Roy Seaberg.

Dollie spent her young years in Lufkin. She attended Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College where she met her husband Howard Stone. They married and moved to Dayton where she has lived for the past 70 years. She and Howard had one son, Stephen Patrick. Their lives revolved around his life though high school, his years at Texas A&M., his service in the United States Navy and his life in Washington, D.C.

Dollie began her teaching career in 1949 where she taught 5th grade but soon moved to middle school English until her retirement in 1979. She had enormous impact on her students throughout the years. She dedicated her life to educating children, caring for her students and making a difference in their lives.

Mrs. Stone was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Lakata Club and the Stitch and Chatter woman’s clubs. Her favorite group was the Wine Club that met at her house every afternoon.

Dollie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard L. Stone; her son, Stephen Patrick Stone; her brother, W.D. Thames, M.D. and wife Sarah Jane; and her sister, Flora Thames O’Quinn. She is survived by her nieces, Ellen Sorrell and husband Ryan, Nancy Thomas, Ina Jane Thames and Mary Anne Clement and husband Jay; brother-in-law, William D. O’Quinn, DDS; her dear friend, Sylvia Ramsey; numerous great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 505, Dayton, Texas; Dayton, the Lakata Club c/o Linda Harris P.O. Box 627, Dayton, Texas 77535 or the Stephen P. Stone ’76 Memorial Corp of Cadets Scholarship, Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840.
