Doris Camilla Martinez

March 27, 1934 — August 24, 2021

Doris Camilla Martinez, 87, passed away on August 24, 2021, at home in Willis, Texas. She was born in Liberty County, Texas on March 27, 1934, to W. E. “Bee” Lum and Myrtle (Cole) Lum and was known as Camilla and “Pop.” She was the widow of John E. Martinez, her beloved husband of 58 years.

After she was married, Camilla was proud to serve as an Air Force wife to Johnny and Mom to her two sons, Mike and Gary, as well as volunteering with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, as a Band and Football Booster officer, room mother, and everywhere else she could nurture and feed kids and adults alike. Her kitchen was always full. Though you couldn’t tell it from her coordinated high heels and outfits, her collection of wild earrings, and picture-perfect hair, she was a self-confessed “tomboy” who loved to run and play sports.

Later in life, she became “Granny” to her own grandchildren and many others whom she informally adopted and who adopted her as their honorary Grandmother. She was blessed to meet and love three great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her delicious meals and desserts, her energy, her fashion, speeding around in her big Lincoln Town Car, and her devotion to her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Gary Martinez and wife Rachel Martinez of Waco, her grandchildren, Deseree and Daniel Probasco, Savanha and Matt Jackson, and Madelyn Martinez, great-grandchildren, Isabel Probasco, Mariah Probasco, and Austin Jackson, her brother Gerald Lum and his wife Dianne, her brother Bruce Lum and his wife Gail. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Elie Martinez, her son John Michael Martinez, her sisters, Joyce Copeland, Faye Driskell and Hazel Peavey, and her brothers, Roy Lum and Wayne Lum.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Lum's Garden of Memories, Cleveland, Texas. The service will be live-streamed. Please visit pace-stancil.com/obituaries/Doris-Camilla-Martinez for the link to the service.
