Edith Reidland Grantham

Edith Reidland Grantham, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, departed this life to join her Lord and Savior, May 19, 2012. Edith was born in Crosby, TX on August 30, 1923, to David A. and Hulda Reidland. She married W. Dale Grantham and they made their home in Dayton, TX where they raised their four daughters. Edith was actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Dayton, the Priscilla Club, and the Lakata Club, of which she was proud to be a charter member. In addition to being a loving and devoted wife and mother, she cared deeply about being involved in her community and church. Edith earned a BBA degree from Baylor University in 1944 where she later taught at the Hankamer School of Business. She earned her Master’s degree in Education from Sam Houston State University. Edith taught English and Business courses at the high school level for many years. After retirement, she continued teaching by answering her longtime calling onto the mission field which took her to Kitakyushu, Japan, where she taught English at a girls’ junior college. In addition, while there, she taught bible studies to both teenage girls and adult women. She was a woman of faith who will be deeply missed by her family and friends and we thank God for the blessing she has been in our lives. Edith is preceded in death by her husband Dale, her daughter, Candace Flynn, and four siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Jane Nash and husband, Roy; Billie Skrehot and husband, David; and Susan Peltier and husband, Arthur; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Flynn Broussard and husband, Chris; Steven Flynn and wife, Leslie; Michelle Justice; Heidi Nash Belson and husband, Brad; Emily Skrehot; Shelly Skrehot; Erin Peltier King and husband, Brian; Grant Peltier and wife, Carole; Griffin Peltier and Garrett Peltier; and eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, 1304 North Cleveland, Dayton, TX 7:00 to 9:00 PM,Wednesday, May 23, 2012. The funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Dayton, TX. Condolences may be sent online to pacestancil.com.
