Geneva Thomas

June 1, 1951 — February 2, 2018

Geneva Kay Phillips Thomas, 66, of Dayton, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 in Dayton. She was born June 18, 1951 In Houston to her late parents, Basil Phillips and Ruby Farrill Phillips.

Geneva had lived in Dayton since 2005, had worked as a waitress at the old Rainbow Café and was a member of Kenefick Southern Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Rojo Trail Riders and Star Touring and Riding clubs, working with benefits and raising money. Geneva was a former member of Parkgate Community Church, where she was a greeter and was also in charge of purchasing kitchen supplies, organizing kitchen events and sending out “We Miss You” cards.

Mrs. Thomas joined Kenefick Southern Baptist Church after moving to Dayton from Pasadena. Her kidney disease kept her from participating in many church activities but she stated “this was the most peaceful time in my life.” Both churches meant a lot to her, she made many friends that she loved very much. She also enjoyed crafting and had previously helped her husband with his vending business.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Basil Phillips and Ruby Farrill Phillips; sisters, Ambre Lynn Phillips, Karen Elaine Phillips, Brenda Ann Ray and Betty Sharon Dunsmore and a brother, Charles Edward “Chuck” Phillips.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Vernon Thomas of Dayton; sisters, Sandra Kalmas of Victoria and Susan Gammon and her husband Edward of Channelview; step-daughters, Trudy Deane and Shelly; grandchildren, Shebi, Michal, Robin and Courtney Gail; longtime friend of 49 years, Maxine Meredith and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Day officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Woodville.
