Joseph Ancel Dunn, Jr.

October 11, 1949 — January 3, 2021

We celebrate the life of Joseph Ancel Dunn Jr.

Joseph was born October 11th 1949 and passed peacefully on January 3, 2021

Joseph’s life of crime was cut short at the ripe age of 7 when he received a warning ticket for not having his bicycle license plate attached in the state of Nevada. Joe went on to become an educator, he was a Master Certified Teacher and Director of the DAEP program for Splendora Independent School District. He served the Splendora School District for 23 years. Prior to becoming an educator, he accomplished many various accolades while working in various fields; mechanic for Mercedes Benz, Machinist/Mechanic for Dresser Industries and was an entrepreneur in rental homes and the laundry business.

Due to his Fathers employment the family lived in many locations and as a result Joseph attended numerous schools in Nevada, Houston, Bellaire, New York, Channel View and Louisiana) he was a graduate of Natchitoches Louisiana High School, a graduate of North Harris County College (Lone Star College), Sam Houston State University and Stephen F. Austin University.

Joe followed a number of sports with a special interest in auto racing, something he had done in his youth. He enjoyed custom cars and just about anything mechanical from autos to aircraft. He was along with his father instrumental in the development of Harvest Acres in Splendora and a strong believer in Law enforcement, safe neighborhoods and schools.

Joseph is survived by a sister Ellen, brother Joe and wife Jessica Wigley, nephew Joseph Wigley, niece Jennifer Edelen and several other nieces and nephews but most importantly generations of former students to who he imparted his work ethic and the lessons of effort and responsibility to make their road in life a successful one. Joseph was not only an educator in the school district but an educator in life. He will be missed by all the lives he touched and all those he helped. Rest peaceful brother.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Jean Dunn, his brother Wendell and his wife and the guiding star in his life Mary Ann Aranguena.
