Norma Jean West

Norma Jean West was born on March 19, 1932 in Houston, Texas to Harry Charles Hoffpowier and Gladys Moses Hoffpowier. She passed away in Tarkington on November 25, 2022 at the age of 90, where she had lived for 48 years. Norma met her future husband Marvin on a blind date after which later they eloped on November 17, 1950. They resided in Beaumont and through the years were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Norma’s first job was at Weingarten’s working as a check out girl. She continud to work outside the home, taking great pride working at Danken’s Jewelry Store in Beaumont. Throughout the years she excelled in advertising at various community newspapers in the Cleveland and Humble areas. Norma retired from Walmart where she worked in the Jewelry department. Norma and Marvin eventually came to settle in Tarkington. They loved to dance and travel. In 2008 Norma was widowed after 58 years of marriage. She was a member of the Senior Circle in Cleveland and enjoyed attending activities and traveling with her friends. Her hobbies included attending and watching PBR bull riding. She could tell you every bull and cowboys name. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Charles Hoffpowier and Gladys Moses Hoffpowier; husband, Marvin West; grandson, Ryan Everett West; brother, Maurice Hoffpowier. Norma is survived by her beloved children, Mark West, Wade West and wife Wendy, Nancy Cox and husband Gene; grandchildren, Jeremy West, Briana West, Heather Stephens, Eddie Cox, Brian West, Braden West; great grandchildren, Kensley Randall, Maddox Randall, Lanie Vestal, Hadley Vestal, Colby Cox, Mason Cox; sister in law, Sharon Hoffpowier Smith; cousin, Karl Dennis Hogg; honorary family member, Paul Mulvihill; numerous other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Sandy, Jennifer, Dee Dee, Krystal and Chaplain Tom. We appreciate your compassion and thoughtfulness while caring for our Mother.
