Robert Louis Dyer

May 19, 1958 — July 17, 2012

Robert Louis Dyer, 54 passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 17, 2012 surrounded by family and friends. Robert's illness was a long and painful journey taking him from family, friends, and the many things he enjoyed. Robert was born on May 19, 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas to Bob and Bernice Dyer. Robert grew up in Houston and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he served as an acolyte, member of Bethany Youth and Youth Choir. Robert graduated from Bellaire High School in 1977. He attended Blinn College and San Jacinto Junior College where he became certified as a Paramedic. Robert married Debbie Driskell on June 14, 1980-celebrating 32 years of marriage at the time of death. Robert leaves behind three children and two grandchildren. He was a dedicated paramedic always ready to help others in distress no matter what the circumstances. He achieved the position of Lieutenant in EMS at Community Volunteer Fire Department. As Robert went forward in life his passion was to coach boys baseball and girls fast pitch softball. Over the years Robert coached many baseball and softball teams. He enjoyed each team and stood proud with them as they succeeded in their respective sports. Many remain friends and always had time to come back again and visit "Coach". Even as he began his transition from life to death many came to the hospital to say goodbye and just sit with him for a while. Another passion Robert had was that of Committeeman at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he remained a member for 21 years. One of his dying wishes was to become a Lifetime Committeeman which was honor recognizing the many years of service and dedication to the youth of the community. The most special moments of his life, however were those times spent with his children and grandchildren. Family togetherness was a priority-from time at the cabins in New Braunfels and counting deer to playing on the playground with the grandchildren.
Robert is survived by Debbie, his wife of 32 years. Children include two daughters, Jennifer Dyer-Godbout and husband Daniel, Kimberly Dyer-Sparks and husband Jonathon, one son, Bubba Dyer. Two grandchildren, Daniella Godbout, and William Sparks. Also, many family and friends who spent many days just sitting with him at the hospital.
The family would like to thank the many persons at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital who made his difficult times better, especially those on 7 Tower. 7 Tower was his home for many, many months and the hospital family that he chose to help him transition from life into death.
Pallbearers are Bubba Dyer, Jonathan Watson, Paul Hamilton, Craig Banister, Chris Brisack, and Bill Kuhlman.
