Roy Evan Driskill

January 29, 1930 — July 19, 2014

Roy Evan Driskell, age 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 19, 2014. Roy was born on January 29, 1930 in Crockett, Texas to Evan and Myrtle Driskill. He spent many happy years attending school at Campbell High School where he met many friends in whom he continued to keep in touch with and even at the age of 84 attended his school reunion with his classmates. Roy joined the United States Army and after the Army entered into a career that would continue with him throughout his life. He loved driving a truck, first with his brother team driving, and then on to many years of air freight deliver, hauling oilfield pipe, and retiring as a truck driver with his last loads being that of lumber around Southeast Texas. Driving was his life and the hardest obstacle to overcome when he could no longer be on the road. He retired for the last time in January 2013 after retiring from full time employment at the age of 83. On March 29, 1958 he married Odell Richards. Roy and Odell lived in Houston and were active in many activities. They were married for 51 years upon Odell’s death in 2009. Roy had only one request when they were married and that was to have a “White Sports Coat and a Pink Carnation” this request was honored by Odell for their wedding. They had two children-Debbie and Sharon, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Roy was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and Legion of Honor for the Arabia Shrine Temple. He also had a strong faith and attended a Church of God which had a small congregation but one in which he enjoyed and made many friends. Roy was a person who met friends for life. He cared about each and everyone he met-many, many of his friends were those that were friendships begun from childhood. He looked forward to the times when he could visit with old friends. In the past year he had become a member of the “What-A-Burger” breakfast club where some his age and retired met every morning for breakfast and conversation-both of which were wonderful for him, giving him something to look forward to everyday. Roy was preceded in death by his parents-Evan and Myrtle Driskill, Wife-Odell Driskell, Son-In-Law – Robert Dyer, Brother and Sister-in-Law –Lee W. and Edna Driskill, Sister and Brother-in-Law June and Truman Thibodeaux, Sister – Lorraine Driskill. Survivors include his children Deborah Driskell Dyer and Sharon Driskell Hersley and Tom McDowall. The family would also like to thank those special friends who visited with him every day also, as well as those special friends who were there for many, many years and could always “just pick up where they left off” as if there were never any miles between them.
