Alene Dollie Mize, 84, of Liberty, Texas, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Liberty.
Dollie was born on August 10, 1941, to Ambrose David Dowdell and Sarah Eva Fontnow Dowdell. She lived a life defined by kindness, joy, and a deep love for people. She was always smiling and had a way of making those around her feel welcome and cared for.
A faithful member of Heights Baptist Church in Liberty, Dollie was known for her joyful spirit and playful sense of humor. She shared a long-running joke with her preacher, Paul Beathard, sneaking a Buddha doll back and forth between their homes, a small but cherished tradition that brought laughter to them both.
Dollie enjoyed bowling and sewing and worked for many years at H&R Block, along with other positions as a receptionist, where her warmth and friendliness shone. Though she was afraid of water for much of her life, she later learned to swim, showing her quiet courage and determination. She loved the color red—it was her favorite and perfectly matched her vibrant personality.
She shared 36 beautiful years of marriage with her true love, Carroll Mize. Carroll often said he knew he was going to marry Dollie from the very first moment he laid eyes on her. Together they worked side by side every day, loved to dance, and enjoyed riding motorcycles, building a life full of partnership, laughter, and love.
Dollie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carroll Mize; and her siblings, Tim Fregia, Chris Fregia, Willie Fregia, Ed Dowdell, Joe Dowdell, Junior Dowdell, and Roxie Lee.
She is survived by her daughters, Laine Copeland and husband W.C., Barbara Vick and husband Dennis, Angelia Hales and husband Frank, and Kristi Clark; her sons, Danny Cupit and Chad Mize; her sister, Joyce McClelland; her grandchildren, Courtney Ponder, Calyn Wesson and husband Brad, Paul Cupit Blanchard, Shelee Whitmire and husband Buddy, Lagenda Wortham and husband Hank, Jericka Martinez and husband Jose, Chelsey Mize, Dylan Mize, and Cameron Mize; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends, especially two beautiful ladies Sylvia Poland and Juanita Mosley.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Cooke Cemetery in Liberty, Texas.
