Anne E. (Block) Prokosch was born on July 17, 1942, in Thomasville, Georgia, to Marcela and Robert Block Jr. She was blessed with a Catholic education and attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana. After graduating, Anne joined the Benedictine Sisters in Cullman, Alabama, where she faithfully served for 24 years as a mathematics teacher. During that time, she was also active on the Peace and Justice Council and later became the comptroller of Cullman College.
In 1984, Anne discerned a new path and chose to leave the religious community to serve beyond it, moving to Atlanta. She later relocated to the Houston area, where she worked alongside her brother designing and building oil tanks. While there, she became involved with a singles group called New Directions.
At a dance at St. Dominic’s Church in Houston, Anne asked Walter Prokosch to dance. That evening, Walter gave her a ride home to Webster when her original ride had to leave early—an act that marked the beginning of a lifelong journey together. While living in Crosby, Anne served as president of CUIC, was a regent with the Catholic Daughters, taught at Lee Junior College, and generously gave her time to countless social and community activities.
We met at a dance at St. Dominic’s, and from there we danced, we celebrated, we traveled, and we worked side by side for more than thirty years. Anne was the love of my life.
