Arthur Buckles (Buck), age 94, of Old River, Texas entered the gates of Heaven on August 20, 2025.
He was born February 24, 1931 in Houston, to parents, Hobart and Lalla Buckles.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jonell Clemens Buckles of Old River, two children, daughter Gwen Christopherson and husband Gary of Old River and son Paul and former spouse Edie Buckles; grandchildren Cody Gage and wife Angie, Amanda Holtz and husband Wes, Megan Buckels, Sean Buckels; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother as well as brother, Fred Buckels and wife Erna of Pearland.
Art grew up and graduated high school in Baytown, TX. Afterwards, he served in the United States Army (1951-52). He reached the rank of Corporal and served tours in both England and Germany.
Returning home, Art worked for Exxon, first serving on the S.S. Allentown, making several trips to South America. Then he took an operations job at the Baytown plant and retired in 1986 after 31 years of service.
Art and Jonell enjoyed traveling together and continued that for many years into retirement. Antiquing and birding were often part of these fun trips. They also made friends in many parts of the country.
Art was a faithful member of Old River Assembly of God Church and served as Church Secretary/Treasurer, board member, and a vital part of the Buckels-Evans Children’s ministry for many years.

Services will be held at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home on Hwy. 321 in Dayton, Texas. Visitation: Sunday, August 24, 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The memorial service will be Monday, August 25, 10:00 AM. Internment will follow at Palms Memorial Park on Hwy 146 Dayton, TX.
