Obituary

Arthur James Wick (Art), age 84, of Coldspring, Texas, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle and dear friend, gained his heavenly wings on Sunday, March 8, 2026. He was born on August 18, 1941, to Arthur and Irene (Kouba) Wick in Hallettsville. He was the oldest of five siblings. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic grade school in Hallettsville and proudly graduated from Hallettsville High School with the Class of 1959.

He moved to Houston and was working at W.R. Zanes when he was drafted to the United States Army. During his military career, Art was stationed in LaPlata, Maryland because of his typing skills. He typed classified documents and delivered them to the Pentagon. Following his military service, Art moved back to Houston, where his life took a marvelous turn when he met the love of his life, Carl Jane “CJ” Ryan. The two met while working at W. R. Zanes, where Art dedicated more than 44 years of loyal service before retiring.

Art and CJ built a life together filled with love, family, and lasting memories, celebrating 48 years of marriage. Over the years they lived in Pasadena and Baytown before eventually settling in Coldspring, Texas. Together they welcomed their son, Brian. Art also warmly embraced his bonus daughter, Melissa, as his own, always believing that family was built through love as much as through blood. Art enjoyed the simple joys of life. He loved fishing, attending cookouts, and spending time talking with family and friends. Known for his easygoing nature and warm personality, Art never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to find something in common with anyone he met and could quickly turn a casual conversation into a friendly, familiar exchange.

Art will be remembered for his kindness, his strong work ethic, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. His presence, laughter, and stories will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Art especially cherished the time he spent with his granddaughters, Amber, Tiffany, Taylor “Maddie”, and Skyler, as well as his great-grandchildren, Cameron, Maya, D’Von “Junior”, Maisyn, Emmie, Ryder and Beckham. Being “PoPaw” was one of the roles he treasured most in life, and he took great pride in each member of his family. He loved them dearly and valued every moment spent together, creating memories that will be carried on by those who knew and loved him.

Art is survived by: his devoted wife CJ; son, Brian Wick (wife Kat); his grandchildren, Amber Gill, Tiffany Lange (husband DJ); Taylor “Maddie” Wick, Skyler Wick, his great grandchildren, Maya and D’Von “Junior” Morris, Cameron Gill, Maisyn, Emmie, and Beckham Lange, and Ryder Bunch, brother Maurice (wife Rose) Wick; sister Marilyn (husband Dwayne) Drozd; sisters-in-law Diana Wick, Wanda “Micki” Brown and Tammie Hoffeld; and brother-in-law Tim Spanihel. In addition, he leaves behind extended family members and a wide circle of friends who will deeply miss his warmth, humor, and generous spirit. Art was preceded in death by his daughter Melissa Clement Gill, parents Arthur and Irene Wick, his brother Daniel Wick, his sister Cindy Spanihel and his nephew Shawn Drozd. Art’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, friendship, and love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Funeral Mass Service: 12:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2026, at St Joseph Catholic Church of Livingston; with Visitation starting at 10:30 am and Rosary at 11:30 am. Officiant: Fr.
