Born on August 21, 1940, in Kennett, Missouri, to Truman Gray and Callie Roberts Gray, Barbara's life journey was marked by her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination.

In her formative years, Barbara faced adversity with grace and fortitude, embodying the essence of a survivor. She overcame challenges and nurtured a legacy of resilience that defined her character. Barbara's life was a testament to her unwavering strength, evident in her role as a dedicated mother and provider.

Having resided in Dayton for the past 17 years, Barbara became a beloved figure in the community as the proprietor of the esteemed Dayton restaurant, The Main Place. Her culinary skills were renowned, and her establishment served as a cherished gathering spot for locals and visitors alike.

Barbara's devotion to her family was unparalleled. Despite facing hardships, she raised six daughters with steadfast love and support. Following the loss of her husband early in life, Barbara demonstrated extraordinary determination, working tirelessly to provide for her children. Her resilience and work ethic served as an inspiration to all who knew her.

Beyond her culinary talents, Barbara possessed a creative flair, excelling as both a seamstress and a quilter. She poured her heart into crafting clothes for her daughters and creating beautiful quilts that became cherished heirlooms within her family.

Described as strong-willed, stubborn, and possessing a wonderful sense of humor, Barbara endeared herself to all who crossed her path. She possessed a deep appreciation for nature, readily sharing her knowledge of birds and flowers with others.

Barbara's love extended beyond her immediate family, embracing her grandchildren and their friends with warmth and affection. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will be carried on by those she touched.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Callie Gray; her husband, Jim Martin; her brothers, Don, Larry, and Bill Gray; her daughter, Jody Johnston; and her grandson, George Wesley Hanks II. She is survived by her daughters, Danielle Marsh and husband Stanton, Tommie Neal, Sonnie Quin and Hugh Damek, Mary Jane Preston and husband Terry, and Julia Martin; her sisters, JoAnn Simon and Sharon Chauvez; grandchildren, Jessica and Jake, Kameron and Janea, Boyd Allen and Blake, Nathan, Aaron, and Daniel; 14 great-grandchildren; special friend, Mary “Bootsie” Killen; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
