Billy Carl Fly was born in Columbus, Mississippi on November 3, 1947 to parents, where Joel B. Fly and Orene Fly experienced the birth of their third and last son. He passed away in Kingwood, Texas on March 10, 2026 at the age of 78. As Billy grew up he followed his older brothers around trying to be as big as they were! Billy and Phyllis met in 1965 in Aldine and were married June 30, 1967 in Katy. They lived in Katy when both of their sons were born; Billy Eugene born June 29, 1968 and Carter Reade born August 4, 1971. In September of 1971, they took a giant step when Billy quit his job as a mechanic with Mahan Volkswagen and leased an Exxon Station in Shepherd, and had been successful in the 1970’s and 1980’s. After approximately 13 years at the Exxon, Billy went to work for TDCJ at the diesel shop, working at the Walls and Wynne Unit until he retired. He enjoyed hunting, riding his Harley and just recently received his hand radio license. He also liked sharing his stories of his many childhood adventures with all of his grandchildren. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Joel B. and Betty Fly; wife, Phyllis Fly; brothers, Jack Fly, Bobby Fly, Wayne Fly, and Royce Fly. He is survived by his sons, Billy Eugene Fly and wife Julie, and Carter Reade Fly; grandchildren, Skylar Fly, Shelby Fly, Cassidy Fly, Chris Brinser, Nick Brinser, Dayna Fly, and Addison Fly. Visitation will be at the Center Hill Baptist Church in Oakhurst, Texas on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 12-2pm. Funeral Service will begin at 2pm with Reagan Cooksey officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst, Texas. Pallbearers for the service will be, Derek Walker, David Burleson, Wallace Reid Burleson, Chris Brinser, Nick Brinser, and Gary Smith.
