Carl William Spik

November 27, 1930 — July 22, 2022

Carl William Spik, known to friends and family as Bill passed from this world on July 22, 2022.

Bill was born in Imperial, Pennsylvania in 1930 to parents who had emigrated from Yugoslavia.
After graduating from North Fayette High School he enlisted in the US Navy where he served as
an electronic technician during the Korean War. Utilizing the education he received in the Navy,
Bill pursued a career in defense electronics to include designing, building, and repairing sonars
and radars.

Due to his education and a natural ability, he was able to fix almost anything from a refrigerator
to a radio.

He was a Ham Radio Operator who saw the hobby progress from morse code to digital signals
and his call letters were W4UBT (Whiskey for Uncle Bill’s Tavern).

Upon retiring, he and his beloved wife Joan lived their dream of traveling full time in an RV and
were able to see every state in the U.S. before settling down in Deming, New Mexico. They
shared this lifestyle for 27 years.

He is preceded in death by his Mother Mary Tavcar Peternel Spik, Father Earnest Spik, Bothers
Frank Peternel, Dominik Peternel, Edward Peternel, Earnest Spik Jr., Frank Spik, Joe Spik,
Vince Spik, Rudy Spik, and sisters Anna Peternel Wojtkowski, Annie Spik, Mary Spik, Sophie
Spik, and Angeline Spik Alred. Bill was the last survivor of 14 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Joan Haigh Spik, Sons Carl Spik Jr and wife
Shirley Spik, Gary Spik and wife Rose Spik, Alan Spik and wife Cheryl Spik, Dean Spik and wife
Lori Spik, and daughter Dora Peery and husband Randy Peery.

His legacy lives in his grandchildren - Iris Spik, Lily Spik, Andra Rosenberg, Jarrod Rosenberg,
Elizabeth Percival and husband Gregory Percival, Randall Peery II, William Peery and wife
Trace Peery.

He was blessed with great grandchildren - Sarah Tompkins, Cora Lee Campbell Query, Hayden
Olivia Rosenberg, Nathan Percival, Violet Percival, Ariel Sanchez, and Dora Rose Peery.

A Memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 7, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland.
