Obituary

Charlsie Geneva Gary, a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on February 11, 1948, in California to James and Charlsie Hammers, Charlsie lived a life centered on the people she loved most. Her family was her greatest joy, and she devoted her life to surrounding them with love, encouragement, and unwavering support. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

Charlsie had a warm heart and a beautiful spirit that drew people to her. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family, creating memories that will be cherished forever. In her younger years, she had a special gift for baking and decorating beautiful cakes, making birthdays and celebrations even more memorable for those she loved. She also enjoyed dancing and loved getting dressed up for a night out on the town. Throughout her life, she found comfort and joy in reading and writing, passions she continued to enjoy until her final days. Above all else, nothing meant more to Charlsie than her family and the special bond she shared with her beloved sister, Nancy.

Charlsie is survived by her loving daughter, Annie Hill and husband, Mark; her son, Alden Gary Jr. and wife, Jennifer; her beloved sister, Nancy Pate; her cherished grandchildren, Justin Hill and wife, Belkis, Ada Doby and husband, Rocky, Nakia Woodson, Geneva Moreland, Starr Butler, Miracle Anderson, and Jean Salvador; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving family members, and a host of dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alden Gary, Sr.; her precious daughter, Billie Kay Sparks; her parents, James and Charlsie Hammers; her beloved Uncle Ed Fletcher; and her loving son-in-law, James "Jimmy" Hill.

Charlsie will be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle kindness, and the unwavering love she gave so freely to those around her. The lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the love she shared will continue to live on through the generations of her family. Although her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love will never be forgotten.
