David Elisha Jones, age 60, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026.
David was a highly respected heavy equipment operator who took great pride in his work. If it had levers, he could operate it—and he was always happy to prove it. His talents extended far beyond heavy machinery. Whether it was automotive repairs, electrical work, plumbing, or even building a house from the ground up, David could do it all. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. In fact, it didn't take long for neighbors to become family through his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need.
David is survived by his loving wife, Eldora Jones; his parents, James Henry Jones and Shirley Simpson Jones; his brother, Joel Jones; his sisters, Naomi Scott and husband David, and Debbie Harris and husband Jimmy; his sons, Micheal Ellison and wife Vanessa, and Travis Burton and wife Stephanie; his daughters, Shawna Shields and husband Lucas, and Tawnya Gunter and husband Nathan; along with many cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jude Bass; his sister, Mary Alice Perkins; his grandmother, Era Simpson; and his aunt, Effie Whitt.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
A graveside service celebrating David's life will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Baytown, Texas, with Pastor Jeremy Marler officiating.
David will be remembered for his strong work ethic, remarkable ability to fix just about anything, and the generous heart that made everyone feel like family. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and selfless service will live on in the many lives he touched.
