Elna Yvonne "Sis" Griffin

Elna Yvonne “Sis” Griffin was born in Dolen, Texas on August 18, 1932 to parents, Jewel Ramon Haltom and Lubye Lee Haltom. She went to her Heavenly home on March 19, 2025 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 92 years. Sis graduated from Tarkington High School in 1950 where she was on the Annual staff, participated in Vollyball, Pep Squad, Choir & as Band Flagbearer. After graduation, she married the love of her life Kenneth Griffin in August 1950 at Concord Baptist Church in Rye, Texas.

She was truly passionate with the activities she was involved in. She has been a member of the Dolen Baptist Church since 1943 where she taught Sunday School, worked with Bible School, cleaned the church, WMU, choir & participated with youth & adult programs as needed. After her move to New Waverly, she still attended Dolen Baptist on a lot of Sundays. When not attending there, she participated in the Waverly Station Cowboy Fellowship where she immediately felt right at home & fell in love with Pastor Wade’s singing & preaching. Everyone loved her & welcomed her presence. She loved everyone at Dolen and the Waverly Station Church.

She was on the Polk County bowling league for many years & treasured all the trophies they won throughout the years.

Sis dedicated 25 years of very passionate service to HCA Kingwood Hospital (previously Kingwood Regional) as a volunteer and had a deep passion to serve others. She served in many capacities at the Hospital. She was the Blood Drive Chairman, worked in the Gift shop and Welcoming Center. She loved everything about life at the Hospital & made many friends that felt like family. Volunteering ended when Covid came along.

She was a member of the Cleveland Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority & a Member of the Shepherd Eastern Star.

Her greatest passion of all was her whole family, especially her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her nieces, nephews, friends of her daughter and grandchildren like her own children and grandchildren as well.

She obtained a wonderful extended family when she moved to Countryside Manor in Conroe, from the staff to the residents. It was definitely a God send having her in this home. It was a wonderful place of love, care and family. She definitely kept them on their toes from day one.

Sis was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel and Lubye Lee Haltom; husband, Kenneth Griffin; brothers, Jewel “Cowboy” Haltom Jr, Robert “Bob” Gordon Haltom, James “Jim” Ira Haltom, and Terry “Butch” Wayne Haltom; sisters, Dorothy Haltom Hall and Doris Haltom Wells.
