Evelyn Faye McLaurin Smith was born January 26, 1936 to Robert Napoleon McLaurin and Bertha Evelyn McLaurin in their home in Ollie, Texas by Dr. Handley, who rode horseback to get there.
She passed peacefully at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont, Texas on June 14, 2024 with family at her side.
Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Texas for many years. Evelyn and her family moved to Cleveland, Texas in 1967 where she worked for the Department of Welfare until 1971. At this time, she became co-owner of Grayson Grocery until the early 1980’s. Once the store sold she went to work for First Bank & Trust in Cleveland, Texas; she retired in June of 1999.
Later in life, Evelyn loved to fish with her beloved husband Roy Smith(Pa). She enjoyed watching the birds and working in her yard, especially with the beautiful azaleas. She had many laughs with friends through the years playing cards and dominoes. Evelyn was an avid Astro fan where she conversed often with her grandsons.
One of her biggest highlights of her life was going to the games with her two grandsons.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Roy Steven Smith; parents Robert and Bertha McLaurin; brother Dr. Stewart McLaurin; grandson Ryan Lorenz.
Evelyn left behind three daughters, Cindy Ann Lorenz and husband Butch of Leander, Connie Jane Waldrep and husband Marlin of Sour Lake, Carolyn Sue Hunter and husband Joseph of Cleveland; four grandchildren, David Lorenz, Ashley Lindsay and fiance Justin Fesco, Seth Hill and fiance Sydney Porter, Katie Pace and husband Chris; five great-grandchildren, Katelyn Lorenz, Bradley Lorenz, Baylor Lindsay, Haizley Fesco, Pecos Pace; sister, Margaret Alexander; brother, Robert McLaurin and wife Myrle; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
A visitation for Evelyn will be held at the Pace-Stancil Chapel in Cleveland, TX on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Evelyn’s funeral will begin immediately following at 2:00 pm, with Dr. Greg Smith officiating. The burial is to follow at Rice Cemetery in Leggett, Texas. Serving as pallbearers for the service will be David Lorenz, Bradley Lorenz, Seth Hill, Robert “Chuck” McLaurin, Steve McLaurin, Jonathan “Jon” Alexander, Chris Pace, Justin Fesco.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Methodist Church of Cleveland, Texas.
