“In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” –John 14:2-3
Fred Roger Martin was born on September 6, 1949, in Germany to parents, Edmund Johannes Martin and Valli Ruubel Martin while on their journey to emigrate to America. His early childhood days were spent in New York and New Jersey. He went to elementary school at PS-13 in Elmhurst, New York, to junior high at William Cowper Junior High School in Queens, New York, and graduated high school from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, New Jersey. He went on to study art, obtaining his Associates of Arts degree from Ocean County College in Toms River, New Jersey, in June, 1970.
He then moved to Florida and began his career in the trucking industry before relocating to Houston, Texas, in 1979. He landed at Tex-Pack in 1980, where he met his wife, Sharon, in 1982. They were married on February 6, 1986, and they lived the majority of their early marriage in Houston, with his new family, including children, Dianna and Houston. They temporarily returned to Lakewood, New Jersey, to live with Fred’s father before returning back to Texas—this time to Livingston—one year later. Fred would continue his trucking career until he retired in 2022.
Fred was passionate about his faith and his Christian beliefs and always made sure that he led prayers for every meal and was eager to discuss the word of God with anyone who was interested, making him a true fisher of men.
He also had an affinity for collecting coins and would frequently gift coins to loved ones and he was an active member of the Franklin Mint. Additionally, he regularly supported charitable organizations for veterans including the Wounded Warrior Project and Disabled American Veterans.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Valli Martin; brother, Harmo Martin; daughter-in-law, Madisen Minter; brother-in-law, Fredrick A. Wilhelm, III; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn and George Morse. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Sharon Martin; children, Dianna Minter, and Houston Dempsey Fuqua, III and wife, Deborah; sister, Linda Wilhelm; nephew, Randall Wilhelm and wife, Ryan; and niece, Victoria Wilhelm; cousin, Tibi Richmond; and countless additional friends and family.
