George Armstrong Bennett Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026.

George was born on August 14, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to George Armstrong Bennett Sr. and Devena Elizabeth Preuit Bennett. Raised in the Methodist Church, George remained a man of strong faith and values throughout his life.

A true outdoorsman, George loved hunting and fishing and was happiest when he was outside enjoying nature. He was always on the go and never one to sit still for long. Known as a jack of all trades, George had a remarkable ability to fix, build, or figure out just about anything. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or friend, never expecting anything in return. His kindness, work ethic, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

George dedicated his career to the pipefitting trade and was a proud member of Local 211. In recognition of his commitment and craftsmanship, he was honored for 50 years of service with the union, a testament to his dedication and the respect he earned throughout his career.

He made his home in Dayton for the past 33 years after previously residing in Channelview, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and helping others.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Bennett Fleming.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 32 years, Laura Bennett; his sons, Christopher Bennett, Harold Bennett, and Shane Pye and wife Laurie Valbuena; his sister, Judy Kester and husband Ray; his cherished grandchildren, Chase Bennett and wife Daisy, Colton Bennett and wife Jessica, Sheldon Campbell and husband Taylor, Corbyn Pye and wife Jenny, and Brianna Platt and husband Dustin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Day officiating.

George will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his willingness to help anyone in need, his love of the outdoors, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
