James Sidney Dugat, 88, of Old River, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 4, 1937, in Anahuac, Texas, to parents Sidney Elarry Dugat and Mildred Lola Shawn.
A lifelong resident of Old River, James was deeply rooted in the community he cherished. For 40 years, James was a dedicated member of Old River Baptist Church and later spent eight years as a member of South Dayton Baptist Church. His faith and fellowship were important cornerstones of his life. James retired from Texas Alkyl Chemical after 34 years of committed service. Even in retirement, he hardly slowed down—he loved mowing, tending to his gardens, and nurturing the vegetables and flowers he grew with care. He had a special affection for animals and spent many years raising rabbits, cats, and dogs. James cherished memories of hunting alongside his son.
Affectionately known as “Honey,” he was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. James is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patsy Dempsey; his wife of 59 years, Frances Ann Shawn Dugat; and his grandson, Jacob Sidney Dugat. He is survived by his son, Jim Dugat, and wife Cindy of Mont Belvieu, Texas; grandchildren Jordyn Dugat, Calyn Dugat, and Paden Dugat; and nephew Michael Gresham of Lantana, Texas.
A private graveside memorial will be held at a later date.
James will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering love for his family, and the simple joys he found in the world around him. His presence will be deeply missed.
