James Vadus Plumlee, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026. Jim was born on January 26, 1946, in Cisco, Texas, to Vadus Emment Plumlee and Brunie Reba Dillon Plumlee. He lived a life defined by faith, service, leadership, and devotion to his family and community.
A dedicated member of First Methodist Church of Cleveland, Jim faithfully served his church in numerous capacities throughout the years. He worked with the First Methodist Church Light Program and Frog Program, and served as a Sunday School teacher, he was a past president and active member of Methodist Men and Methodist Fellowship. For many years, he was the church's lead usher, greeting and serving others with warmth and dedication. One of his most meaningful contributions was establishing scholarships for the youth of First Methodist Church, helping invest in future generations.
Jim was also deeply involved in the Cleveland community. He was a past president and present member of the Cleveland Lions Club and a former member of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce twice he was selected with the lions club top honor, “Lion of the Year”. His commitment to service and community improvement touched countless lives.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Tarleton State University, an accomplishment that reflected his lifelong appreciation for education and personal growth. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. His military service reflected the same sense of duty, commitment, and integrity that characterized his life. Following his service, he continued to dedicate himself to his family, church, community, and the many causes that were important to him.
Above all, Jim cherished his family. He was married to the love of his life, Glinda Plumlee, for nearly 50 years. Together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage and were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Vadus Emment Plumlee and Brunie Reba Dillon Plumlee; his parents-in-law, Bill and Opal Dan Strahan; and his brother-in-law, Earl Beaver.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Glinda Plumlee; his sisters, Vada Plumlee and Lois Beaver; and his nephews, David Beaver and James Beaver, along with many extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Cleveland. A celebration of Jim's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Joshua Ray and John Kropinak officiating. An urn burial will take place afterward at Cleveland City Cemetery.
James will be remembered for his unwavering faith, servant's heart, generous spirit, and the lasting impact he made on his church, community, and family. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
