James Dale Litton

James Dale Litton, Sr. was born on February 10, 1950 to J.L. (Jake) Litton and Bobbie Scarborough. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Allen W. Litton. Dale was ushered into Heaven on December 1, 2024 at the age of 74. His family was by his side to support and love him, both in life and in death. They are comforted by the stories told about the “Oilfield Cowboy”. Dale was genuine, loyal, hardworking, knowledgeable, and a warrior to the very end.

Like many, Dale was drawn to the oilfields. He began his career with Western Company as a Cementer. He eventually joined some lifelong friends and took employment with Stanley Well Service as a Rig Hand before moving to a sales position. Working in the oilfield, he experienced extreme weather conditions, rugged manual labor, and long hours in remote areas. The spinning chains, mud mixtures, humming generators, derricks, and the smell of oil soon got into his blood and he was hooked. Dale was eager to start his own service company and in 1993 he and Pamela took a leap of faith and created Cowboy Tools, Inc.

Dale and his company went above and beyond for their clients and employees. His work ethic was unmatched and his knowledge was voluminous. Dale was the kind of man you could count on and his reputation in the industry as well as his knowledge was well respected.

Litton Petroleum Consultants was born in 2000 as a branch of Cowboy Tools, taking him to locations across Texas and Louisiana. The knowledge Dale had of the industry made him the man to call for any well complications. Dale Litton wasn’t just an owner; he was the job. Although his health eventually forced him to slow down, he truly never stopped.

The enthusiasm Dale had for the oil industry was but a drop in the bucket compared to the love for his family. He learned to appreciate traveling with Pamela, his wife of 35 years. Dale found great joy in taking the kids and grandkids to Canyon Lake for a ride on the tubes and he loved keeping up with them and all of their activities. When they had a problem, they knew they could come to Dale for support. Pamela and Dale opened their home to not only family, but friends as well. In life Dale held many titles but his favorite of all was “PawPaw” as he was affectionately known by to not only his grandchildren but their friends as well as his nieces and nephews.

Those left to treasure his memory are his beloved wife, Pamela Litton. His sister, Angela Litton & husband Mickey. His children, Jim Litton and wife Jeannie, Amy Scott and wife Mendy Johnson, Justin Litton and wife Beverly, Miranda Hulvey and husband Dave, and Kirk Graves and wife Rachel.

His precious grandchildren that he loved so much, James Litton, Kaylianne Snipes, Emily Scott, Samantha Scott, Joshua Scott and wife Katie, Kelsey Broussard and husband Kade, Colton Alford, Laurel Sullivan and husband Wyatt, Madison Graves, and Reecie {the baby) Graves.

And just when Dale didn’t think life could get any sweeter, he became a great grandfather to McCoy, Clara, Caden, Mila, Wynstin, and Whitley.

Dale is also survived by a host of lifetime friends and extended family and he cherished each of them. They made his health challenges easier by their friendship.

Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
