Johnny Jake Newcomb "Competitive Spirit"
Johnny Newcomb, age 82, currently of Conroe, Texas, passed away on January 25, 2026. His loving wife of 58 years, Billie Sue (Smith) Newcomb was with him when he passed and he will be greatly missed. Johnny Newcomb was born in Hempstead, Texas on May 1, 1943, to Opal Janet (Hill) and Walter Mathis Newcomb Sr. Johnny Newcomb was the 6th of seven siblings. His family lived in Hempstead Texas where he attended school, including Hempstead High School. His father died when he was 14 years old. In June of 1964 Johnny joined the navy. He was unable to serve in Vietnam due to already having 2 Brothers serving there at the time. Johnny always talked about his time in the navy and the friends he had while serving on a destroyer. Johnny was discharged in June 1966. He met Billie shortly after and was Married February 18, 1967. Johnny married into an instant family as Billie had 3 children from a previous marriage. Johnny raised them as his own and he and Billie adopted a fourth son in 1972. Johnny loved being able to Coach his 3 sons Glenn, Randy and Jerry in baseball and football. He retired from HL&P after 35 years. As his sons grew up and started a family of their own. He became a grandfather and great grandfather. Johnny was a faithful servant of God and a member at Mims Baptist Church where he was part of their choir. He changed churches and became a member of First Baptist Church of Conroe were enjoyed socializing with lifelong friends. Johnny will be greatly missed.
Johnny Newcomb is preceded in death by his grandparents James Newcomb and Lucy Lee, his parents, his son Glenn, his sisters, Barbara, Dorothy and Opal and Brothers, Walter Jr and Jimmie. Johnny Newcomb is survived by his wife, Billie Sue; his children, Donny Newcomb and wife Jane, Randy Newcomb and wife Deanna, Jerry Newcomb and wife Denise; grandchildren, Shelly Blakely and Husband Joe, Angela Newcomb, Alan Newcomb and wife Mallory, Daniel Newomb and fiance Raelee, Ashley Newcomb and fiancé Max, Chayenne Newcomb, James Cothran, Betty Sellers; great-grandchildren, Luke Newcomb, Tristan Canales, Brielle Canales, Daxton Espinoza, Adelyn Espinoza, Alexander; and brother; Robert Newcomb.
Visitation will be held in the Pace-Stancil Chapel in Cleveland, Texas on Sunday, February 1st from 9-11:00 am. The funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, February 1st at 11am in the Pace-Stancil Chapel.
The graveside service will be on Sunday, following the funeral service at Moss Hill Cemetery in Moss Hill, TX.
