Kimberly Renee Killen

Kimberly “Tootie”, “2T” Renee Killen, born on February 3, 1977, to William and Mary June Killen, transitioned peacefully on October 20, 2023. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Tootie spent her formative years in Dayton, Texas, where she graduated from Dayton High School in 1995. During her time there, she was not only a dedicated member of Future Farmers of America (FFA) but also showcased her exceptional athletic abilities as the catcher for her league softball team. Off the field, Kim found solace and joy in fishing with her father, fondly known as “Willie,” on Day Lake, creating precious memories that would be treasured forever.

Her journey continued as she pursued a fulfilling career in nursing, a profession that allowed her to touch countless lives with her kindness and expertise. Graduating from Lee College in 2004, Tootie embarked on a nineteen-year-long nursing career that saw her excel in various roles, including corporate nursing, nurse education, travel nursing, hospice care, gerontological nursing, and home health care. She was not just a nurse; she was a beacon of comfort, providing solace to those in need and putting people at ease with her infectious laughter and boundless love. Kim's dedication to her profession was further underscored by her certifications in wound care and her role as an educator, teaching CPR and wound care classes to others.

In addition to her professional achievements, Kim was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dayton but had attended Community of Faith in Cypress, Texas more recently. Her faith was a guiding light, shaping her character and illuminating the lives of those around her.

Kim is preceded in death by her father, Willie Killen, and her brother, Roger “Wally” Medlin. She is survived by her loving mother, Mary “Bootsie” Killen, and her brother, Melvin Medlin, both of Dayton. Kim will be fondly remembered by her aunts and uncles, Maxine and Lewis Mosley, Bobbie and Fulton Jones, Baxter and Kathleen Killen; special friends, Michelle Sutton and Dacia Guerrero. Her nieces and nephews, Hunter and Makenzie Medlin, Jensen and Karsyn Medlin, Kaitlynn and Drake deGaynor, Brylee Guerrero, Blake Medlin, and Banks Jay Medlin, will carry her memory in their hearts. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous other family members and friends, all of whom were touched by her warmth and generosity.

A visitation in remembrance of Tootie will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A service honoring her life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, also at Pace Stancil Funeral Home. Kim’s final resting place will be Magnolia Park Cemetery, Dayton, Texas.
