Lawrence Monroe Jones Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. Lawrence was born on December 23, 1945, in Liberty, Texas, to Alton Jones and Doris Votaw Jones. Because his father served in the military, Lawrence spent his early years moving from place to place before settling in Dayton, Texas, where he proudly called home for the past 61 years.
A member of Crosby Brethren Church, Lawrence lived a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. He spent many years behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler, a career he truly enjoyed. When he wasn't on the road, he could often be found hunting, fishing, farming, or planning his next vacation. He especially loved taking road trips and cruises, always enjoying the opportunity to explore new places and make memories with those he loved.
More than anything, Lawrence cherished his family. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and never met a stranger. His kind heart, generous spirit, and love for others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Martha Jones; his parents, Alton and Doris Jones; his sister, Charlotte Rhodes and her husband, I.D. Rhodes; his sister-in-law, Louise Lyrock, and brother-in-law, Henry Lyrock; his sister-in-law, Eva Mae Psencik; his nephew, David Rhodes; and his great-grandson, Adam Jones.
Lawrence is survived by his sons, Lawrence Jones Jr. and Robert Jones and his wife, Connie; his daughters, Sherry Stephenson and her husband, Rusty, Judy Jones, Susan Hawkins Jones, and Nancy Meyer and her husband, Brandon; his brothers-in-law, Edwin Psencik and Walter Psencik; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
A funeral service celebrating Lawrence's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, with Pastor Ken Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Park.
Lawrence will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, his adventurous spirit, and the kindness he shared with everyone he met. His legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
