Obituary for Leveata Enloe Griffin

Leveata Enloe Griffin, 94, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, surrounded by family and comforted by the gospel music she so dearly loved. She took her last breath at 10:08 a.m., a poignant moment reflecting both her home address on FM 1008 and the police code “10-8,” meaning “present and waiting on the next assignment”—a fitting farewell for a life of unwavering faith, service, and love.

Born on April 8, 1931, in Cleveland, Texas, Leveata was the cherished daughter of Roy Benjamin Enloe and Sybil Isaacs Enloe. In her early years, she grew up on the banks of the San Jacinto River and later moved to Baytown, Texas where she became head twirler of the Cedar Bayou Bears at Cedar Bayou High School where she graduated. After graduation, she returned to Cleveland, where she built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.

Leveata worked for the telephone company while raising her children in Cleveland. Later, she relocated to Canyon Lake, where her creativity blossomed—teaching art classes and operating an art supply shop. Eventually, she returned to Dayton to care for her beloved mother and to be closer to her children and grandchildren, a role she embraced with her characteristic energy and deep devotion.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A long-time member of Kenefick Southern Baptist Church, Leveata was deeply involved in church activities and was known for her joyful spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering love for Jesus. She was a woman who never liked to sit still—always busy, always social, and always giving of herself to others. She was also a phenomenal cook, known for bringing comfort and joy to the table.

In her final hours, Leveata found solace in the gospel songs of Alan Jackson and Carrie Underwood’s powerful rendition of How Great Thou Art—a testament to the strength of her faith and the peace she found in her Savior.

Leveata was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Clarence “C.F.” Griffin; her parents; and her son, Michael Griffin. She is survived by her son Pat Griffin and wife Tammi; brothers Charles Enloe and wife Shirley, and Buford Enloe; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, with a celebration of life service to follow at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Jeff Day and Lamar Shane.

Pallbearers will be Philip Griffin, Justin Pugh, John Coleman, Scott Welch, Cullen Sherman, and Brian Wood. Honorary pallbearers are John Stockton, Brandon Wood, Kevin Faught, and Riaan Roos.

Though she has gone from our sight, her light remains in the lives she touched. As her family so beautifully put it, Leveata has simply “gone home.”
