Linda May McKee

Linda Redmond McKee, age 76 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 19th, 2025. She was in her home in Tarkington Prairie, Texas, surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Linda was born in Beaumont, Texas in 1948. Linda was passionate about scouting, music, Native American folklore, and spending time with family. Linda’s involvement in scouting started when she was seven years old and continued through her teens and twenties as a scout and later as a true leader. When her three sons were old enough, she once again got involved as their Pack Leader and then Scout Master in Boy Scouts as her sons aged through the ranks with Pack/Troop 95 of Cleveland, Texas. All her sons reached the rank of Eagle Scout, of which she was very proud.

Linda was very fervent about folk music and was a self-taught guitarist. In her twenties, she actively performed at the Sand Mountain Coffee House, in Houston, with other local musicians.

As a teenager, Linda got involved with the Latonka Indian Dancers in Houston which sparked her life-long interest in Native American culture. She became a master beadworker, leather craftsman and mentor. Linda would be involved with the Texas Indian Hobbyist Association and the National Powwow Association for the next sixty years.

Linda is survived by her husband, Jim, of fifty years of marriage; her three sons Travis, Ryan, and Kyle; two granddaughters, Abby and Kylee; and her sisters, Jill and Peggy.
