Louis Reuben McDaniel

Louis Reuben McDaniel, 81, passed away on January 15, 2026. He was born on May 16, 1944, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Ross McDaniel and Virginia Gonzales McDaniel.

Louis proudly served and retired from the United States Navy before dedicating his professional life to law enforcement and security. He worked as a police officer, sheriff’s deputy, auctioneer, and later oversaw Federal Court security contracts between AKAL Security and the U.S. Marshals Service. He carried himself with integrity and commitment throughout his career.

He was a longtime member of the American Legion, NRA and remained deeply proud of his military service in the Navy where he retired as an E7.

After being diagnosed with cancer, Louis fought with unwavering courage and optimism. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Louis during his illness - especially his doctor and staff at the infusion center, rehab center and his hospice team.

Louis loved God, country and family. He worked hard, loved his Texas roots, watching rodeos, woodworking, loved good food, and enjoyed spending time with family most of all, telling stories from his childhood and Navy days. Doesn't matter where he went, he always made a friend. He was easy to talk to and loved to share words of wisdom and encouragement which definitely stuck with you. He was generous with his appreciation of others. He was a resident of Dayton, Texas for over 40 years.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Ross McDaniel and Virginia Gonzales McDaniel, and by his brother, Ross McDaniel Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Wanda McDaniel; his son, Patrick McDaniel and wife Maria; his daughter, Robyn Jackson and husband Doug; his grandchildren, Isaac McDaniel and Adrial McDaniel; and his great-grandchildren, Maverick McDaniel and Molly McDaniel.
