Marcus "Anthony" Diaz, 16, of Dayton, Texas, passed away on June 23, 2024, leaving behind a community touched by his warmth and spirit. Born on October 20, 2007, in Baytown, Texas, Anthony spent the last eight years of his life in Dayton, where he became an integral part of the community.
Anthony was a proud member of the Dayton High School class of 2026 and actively participated in the ROTC program, driven by his aspiration to become a Marine, a dream he nurtured since childhood. His dedication to service was matched only by his love for the outdoors, especially his passion for fishing. Anthony also had a keen interest in guns, enjoying the hobby of collecting miniature replicas, and he found joy in photography, capturing moments that reflected his keen eye for detail.
Described as a compassionate and helpful young man, Anthony deeply cherished his family, including his beloved sisters and brothers, as well as his cat, Hazel. He held a special place in his heart for his two close friends, Marlett and Leah, who provided unwavering support and companionship throughout his life. At Dayton High School, Anthony found guidance and support from two cherished staff members, Mrs. Cynthia Bell and Mrs. April Hamilton, who played significant roles in his journey.
Anthony is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Marie Henson, and is survived by his grandparents, David and Vicki Parker; his mother, Juli Brown Watson; his proud dad, coming into his life 6 months after Anthony’s birth, Kevin Watson; brothers, Allen Watson and Javon Mayes; sisters, Kara Watson, Kalei DuPree, Haylei Parker, Halle Elexis, and Myah Diaz; aunts, Kirsten Shaw, Hollie Rasberry, Dessa Parker, Tammy Brandin, Lindi Brown, Angi Brown, and Lindsi Weaver; numerous cousins, and a host of other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
A memorial service to celebrate Anthony's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, with Colin Errington and Zach Rathbone officiating. Prior to the service, friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during the visitation hour from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
In his short life, Anthony Diaz touched the hearts of many with his kindness, determination, and infectious smile. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
