Obituary

Mark Wayne Barnett, Sr., born January 20, 1960, passed away on April 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family.

Mark proudly enlisted in the United States Army straight out of high school, serving his country with honor. After his time in the military, he went on to earn his CDL and built a career on the open road, driving 18-wheelers and later log trucks. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication—never afraid of a hard day’s work.

Outside of work, Mark found joy in the simple things he loved most. He had a passion for riding his Harley-Davidson, feeling freedom on the open road. He also loved music and could often be found playing his guitar, sharing songs and laughter with those around him. Mark had a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any room.

A true family man, Mark was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He showed his love not only through his presence but also through his cooking—famously making delicious chicken fried steak and his beloved “cathead” pawpaw biscuits, meals that brought everyone together.

He is survived by his loving children: Mark Wayne Barnett, Jr. and wife Kristin; Joshua Ryan Barnett and wife Jennifer; Meghann Charis Barnett; and Lindsay Taylor Barnett and husband Trinty. He was a proud grandfather to Hunter, Colt, Damian, Emily, Little, TJ, Abel, Cambria, Roo, Cora, and Dorian.

He is also survived by his siblings, James Eric Barnett and Lora Kay Barnett-Emeny; and by other beloved survivors: Leon Barnett; Dorothy Jackson and husband DeWitt Jackson; Glenda Kelly; and Johnnie Harness and husband Robert, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaJuana Barnett; his parents, L.B. Barnett and Doris Hollifield; his grandparents, Dan Taylor Barnett and wife Anna Lee Caswell Barnett Bickford, and Ava Lee Hollifield and husband Haurce Benjamin Hollifield; his brother, Ricky Joe Barnett; and his brother-in-law, Terry Lynn Emeny.

Mark will be remembered for his strength, his laughter, his love for family, and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
