Max John Crapo

Max John Crapo, 66, passed away on September 14, 2026.

Max was born on September 24, 1959, to John Charles Crapo and Mary Melvina Foust Crapo. A dedicated and dependable worker, he spent 43 years with Valero before retiring. He was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation.

Max loved to stay active and was always ready to go and do. He enjoyed cooking, riding motorcycles, and admiring classic cars. Music was especially important to him. A gifted keyboard player who played entirely by ear, Max took great joy in entertaining others.

When his children were young, Max created many treasured memories by taking them camping and fishing. The family also enjoyed trips to Schlitterbahn and an annual tradition of floating the river. As a young man, he enjoyed archery and swimming. Above all, his favorite moments were those spent with his family.

Max lived in Dayton for the past 25 years after previously making his home in Houston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Crapo, and his brother, Darrell Thomas Crapo.

Max is survived by his children, Max Brandon Crapo and wife Kathryn, Cameron Matthew Crapo, and Rachel Ann Atkinson and husband Billy; sisters, Melinda Sharon Chrysafis and Marilyn Nanett Crapo; grandchildren, Clayton Adrian Ponder and wife Shelby, Hunter Matthew Ponder, Caleb John Ponder, Lane Garrett Ponder, Townes Ryan Crapo, and Kaleb Wayne Atkinson; and the mother of his children, Lisa Ann Crapo; numerous extended family and many friends.

A service honoring Max's life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m., followed by visitation and a time of fellowship from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
