Obituary

Onie Leatha Lawrence, age 82, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 1, 1944, in Conroe, Texas to Onie Sims & Bernice Davis.

Onie was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, proud MawMaw, and faithful friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she loved them with all her heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

For 64 wonderful years, Onie lovingly cared for and shared her life with her beloved husband, Thomas Lawrence. She took great pride in raising her children and creating a warm, welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and good food. One of her family's favorite meals was her famous Doritos casserole, & chicken and dumplings, a dish that brought everyone together around the table.

Onie found joy in life's simple pleasures. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing sports and staying active in the TOPS community. She was also a devoted fan of Elvis Presley and loved listening to his music. Above all, she was happiest when she was cooking for her family, caring for those she loved, and making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Onie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Thomas “Buddy” Lawrence; her beloved daughters, Katherine Stringfellow and Kimberly Barringer; her cherished grandchildren, Misty Barringer Barrow and husband David, Terry Barringer and wife Allyssa, Tommy Barringer, Melissa Pratt, Jennifer Pratt, Danielle Pratt, and Marlin Pratt; and her 23 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Onie Dean Sims and David E. Sims, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katrina “Tina” Free; her mother, Bernice Davis; her father, Onie Sims; her stepfather, James Strickland; and her sister, Doris Faison. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the many memories she leaves behind. Onie's legacy of love, kindness, devotion, and family will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Pallbearers for the service will be Terry Barringer, Wyatt Wortman, Vernon Howell, Marlin Pratt, Mike Greenhaw, and Corbin Harrelson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Barringer David Barrow, and Frank Merrill.

“A life well lived leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of those who loved her.” She will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed
