Penny Lou Johnson, 65, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025 with her family by her side after a tough battle with cancer. She was born April 12, 1960 in Stuttgart, Germany to Ben & Yvonne Doskocil while her father served in the US Army. Penny was a 1978 graduate of Sterling High School in Baytown, Texas and grew up in Highlands. She worked for Harry Johnson Welding, helping her husband build his company, while maintaining a home with three growing children.
Penny met the love of her life, Harry Johnson, in 1977. After a relentless pursuit, she finally agreed to a date. It was then she knew she had found her soul mate and they were married a short, 5 months later on February 10, 1978. Two years later they started a family and then moved to Hardin in 1983. There they would celebrate up to 47 anniversaries, until her passing. Her life was dedicated to their three children, Stephanie, Rachel and Jake, but she was also a mom to everyone else. Penny was often seen volunteering in the PTO, on school field trips or being "that mom" with the giant camcorder on her shoulder. She touched so many lives and was there for so many kids along the way.
Penny was also an avid hunter. You could always find her hog hunting at their lease in Devers, gator hunting out in the marsh or waiting on her big trophy at their lease in Menard. Her favorite place was either in a deer stand or next to a camp fire with friends & family. She was known for her brutal honesty, having no filter and a massive shoe collection. However, her giving heart wasn't something that went unnoticed. Penny was always quick to stand up for others or help someone in need, and she could whip up a gourmet meal in record time that could feed an army. She was the life of the party and could make anyone laugh with her infectious personality.
Penny is proceeded in death by her father, Ben L Doskocil, mother-in-law, Hopelene Johnson and father-in-law, W.L. Johnson. She will be forever remembered by her mother, Yvonne, loving husband, Harry; children, Stephanie and husband, Brett Clark, Rachel and husband, Brandon Dinsmore, Jake Johnson and wife, Samantha. Grandchildren, Lainey & Brooks Clark, Bryce, Colt & Adalyn Dinsmore, Evelyn, Ellasyn & Harry (Huck) Johnson; Brother, Paul Doskocil and wife, Angie, sister, Phyllis Doskocil and wife, Rhonda; Sisters-in-law, Shelly Hutchison, Renee Newsom and fiancé, Mark; brothers-in-law, Emmitt Johnson and Jerry Hart; nieces, Ashley, Mallory, Bailey and nephew, William, her “adopted” son, Tommy and so many others that were like family.
A service will be held at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas on Tuesday, June 17th at 2:00pm with a procession following to Hardin Methodist Church. A visitation for friends will be Monday, June 16th from 5-7pm, with family visitation at 4pm.
