Randy Neal Sopchak November 15, 1958 – October 1, 2025
Randy Neal Sopchak, 66, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Randy was born on November 15, 1958, in Houston, Texas, to Lawrence Sopchak and Bonnie Stone Sopchak. He graduated from Furr High School in Houston with the Class of 1978 and later settled in Tarkington Prairie, where he lived for the past 33 years. Prior to that, he made his home in Galena Park.
A man of unwavering faith, Randy shared his passion for gospel music through his travels, singing and playing drums with groups such as the Gilbert Brothers and Eternal Hope Singers. He was a proud member of the International Longshoremen’s Association, Local 28, and known by many as a hardworking and faithful friend.
Music was the soundtrack of Randy’s life—he lovingly called it “fusic” when talking with his babies. He had an uncanny ability to name the singer, songwriter, and story behind almost any song. His love for music was matched only by his joy in grilling, making homemade ice cream, and indulging in anything with poppy seeds—especially kolaches, a nod to his beloved Polish heritage.
Randy also had a signature style—he was known and loved for always smelling good, something his family and friends affectionately remember. He was a collector at heart, with a special fondness for antique tractors and all things old and rusty.
But above all, Randy’s heart belonged to his family. His wife of 38 years, Julie, was his greatest companion, and his daughters, Candi and Courtney, were the pride of his life. He was a devoted “Soapy” to his grandbabies, who brought him endless joy.
Randy is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Sopchak, and his in-laws, Sonny and Wanda Parnell. He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Sopchak; daughters, Candi Sopchak Russell and husband Cameron, and Courtney Sopchak Matthews and husband Aaron; grandbabies Camdyn Russell, Curt Russell, Coe Russell, Macy Matthews, and Baby Boy Matthews, expected soon; his mother, Bonnie Sopchak; brother Larry Sopchak and wife Robin; sisters Kathy Bostick and Gina Walla and husband Shaun; sister-in-law Shelley Brewer and husband Bart; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many cherished friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland. A celebration of Randy’s life will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., also at Pace Stancil. Burial will follow at Pace Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens.
Randy Sopchak’s faith, love for family, music, and unmistakable presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
