Raymond Russell Campbell, 64, of Liberty, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026.

Raymond was born on September 3, 1961, in Liberty, Texas, to Raymond Campbell and Wilda Hunt Herndon. A lifelong resident of the area, Raymond was a man known for his resilience, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family.

He was a member of the ROTC in high school. After high school, he joined the Army and served proudly for several years. Raymond was also a member of the Elks Lodge for 24 years. He attended South Liberty Oilfield Methodist Church. Throughout his life, he built lasting friendships and was always willing to lend a smile, a story, or a joke to those around him.

Raymond married the love of his life, Merlinda, and together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage after first meeting as high school sweethearts in the tenth grade. Their love and devotion to one another created a strong foundation for their family and remained an inspiration to those who knew them.

Anyone who knew Raymond knew he was as tough as they come. Friends and family often joked that he had "nine lives." Despite broken bones and countless hardships over the years, he always found a way to keep going. Tough as nails and hardheaded in the best way, Raymond met life's challenges head-on with determination and strength.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a gifted storyteller who could captivate a room with his tales. He especially enjoyed teasing his brother and never missed an opportunity to get him into a little trouble. He also loved picking on his baby sister, Carla. The two could never resist racing to see who would get the last word, a playful rivalry that brought laughter to their family for years. Though he loved to give her a hard time, his love for Carla was unwavering, and those who knew them understood the special bond they shared. His family finds comfort in knowing he will always be watching over her.

Raymond loved playing Skip-Bo with family and friends, watching classic John Wayne westerns and The Price Is Right, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns, and spending countless hours supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. Nothing brought him greater joy than watching his family grow and succeed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Campbell and Wilda Hunt Herndon; his grandparents, Willie Mae and Toby Jannise; and Big Daddy and Big Momma Campbell.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 47 years, Merlinda Campbell; his step-father, Edward G. Herndon; his children, Amanda Davis, Trinnie Prichard and husband Tohya, and Audrianna Campbell; his brothers, Ned Herndon and wife Michelle; his sisters, Carla Armeida and Sandra Dibeler and husband Wesley; his son-in-law, Joey Davis; his grandchildren, Dustin Campbell and wife Heather, Brooke Whitmire and husband Blake, Kaleigh Abshire and husband Blake, Samantha Davis, Jaylen Prichard and Ryan Gorodnick, Dalton Prichard, Bentley Sanchez, Liliana Sanchez, and Kacelynn Sanchez; his great-grandchildren, Brooke Thomason, Colton Thomason, Devin Thomason, Everleigh Whitmire, and Jameson Whitmire; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

A visitation for Raymond will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, with burial to follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Campbell, Jeff Morris, Jeffrey Armeida, Jimmy Armeida, Mike Taylor, and Sammy Salazar.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Campbell, Dalton Prichard, Lisa Kay Hatcher, Bentley Sanchez, Jeremy Armeida, Ned Herndon, and Casey Campbell.

Raymond's strength, humor, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy will live on through the stories he shared, the laughter he brought to others, and the countless lives he touched.
