Raymond Charles McMullen, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026. Ray was born on July 26, 1937, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Roy N. McMullen and Grace Renfro McMullen. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was marked by service, curiosity, and a deep love for family.
He graduated from Lufkin High School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Houston, where he was a proud Cougar. He later earned a master’s degree from the University of Dallas. Ray honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as a navigator, flying nuclear bombers during his military career. His passion for aviation extended beyond his service, as he also held a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying small aircraft.
Ray also enjoyed a long and accomplished career as an industrial engineer, working in the field for over 40 years. He took great pride in his work and the contributions he made throughout his professional life.
A man of faith, Ray was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingwood, where he served as an usher. He also gave generously of his time volunteering with Humble Area Assistance Ministries (HAAM), always eager to help those in need.
Ray had a wide range of interests. He was an enthusiast of vintage cars, especially Mustangs, and a fan of rock and roll music, with a particular fondness for The Rolling Stones. He enjoyed practicing karate and achieved the rank of brown belt. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his wife, Judy, at their place in Wimberley, as well as boating on Lake Houston with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Judith McMullen; and his son, Matthew McMullen.
He is survived by his daughter, Leah Kolarik and her husband Arnold; his son, Mark McMullen; his grandchildren, Lindsey Stegall and her fiancé James Short, Kaitlyn Craft and her husband Jackson, and Tania Kolarik and her husband Tanner Hilyard; and his great-grandchildren, Hayes Craft and Bodhi Craft.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Grace House, especially Camie and Dale Brock, and staff, for their compassionate care, as well as to Horizon Hospice and Rachel Dinsmore for their support during this time.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
Ray will be remembered for his steady presence, his adventurous spirit, and the deep love he had for his family and community.
