Rebecca Smesny Wagner

We are greatly saddened by the passing of our beloved Rebecca Lynn Smesny Wagner, affectionately called "Becky'. She was fifty-five. Becky was born on September 22, 1968, in Dayton, Texas, to Louis J, and Maline Smesny. She lived in the Dayton area most of her life. She had a gift for holding the family together, and she and her husband were the caretakers for her mother who lived with them. She was especially fond of and close to her son, nephews, niece, great-nephew, and she loved being with all of her extended family. She loved the Lord, had a tender heart, a ready laugh, loved sunsets and the outdoors. She definitely had a green thumb which was evident by the 60 houseplants in her home. There were many more in her yard. Becky loved gardening and even grew a little bit of cotton this year. She and James purchased a beautiful Victorian home on N Main Street in Dayton and transformed the yard into something really beautiful. She was also a good decorator and made that house come alive. She loved her cats - all four of them - who lived in the house. She also fed seven stray cats outside each evening. Becky was employed for the past five years by Monument Chemical Company as a Customer Service Representative.

Becky was preceded in death by her father, Louis J. Smesny and her nephew, Clay Schreckenbach. She is survived by her son, Blake Rhodes of Liberty and her husband, James Wagner of Dayton. Becky is also survived by her mother, Maline Benton Smesny of Dayton, brothers, Gary Smesny of Dayton, Ron Smesny of Bellville, sister, Brenda Schreckenbach of Dayton, nephews, Erik, Shane, and Quinn Schreckenbach, niece, Caitlin Lindsey, and great-nephew, Tucker Schreckenbach. She is also survived by stepsons, James and Christopher Wagner and grandson, Kase Wagner.

Becky was deeply loved by a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins. She will be deeply missed, and her family requests that she be remembered for the joy she brought to their lives and not the sadness of her passing.

Her family requests that friends do not bring live plants as they are not able to care for them.

Officiating will be Rev. Jubal Cannon and Rev. Donnie Fowler. Pallbearers are Blake Rhodes, James Wagner, Ron Smesny, Erik Schreckenbach, Quinn Schreckenbach, and Wade Blank. The family is being served by Pace Stancil Funeral Home of Dayton.

Visitation will be January 3, 2024, from 4:00-5:00 for family and 5:00-8:00 for family and friends. The homegoing service will be on January 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home. Interment will be at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie, Texas.
