Richard “Rick” Hatfield, Jr.
December 9, 1946 – May 7, 2025
Richard Hatfield, Jr., known lovingly as Rick, passed away on May 7, 2025, in Coldspring, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on December 9, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to Richard Hatfield Sr. and Eva Nell Tannehill Hatfield, Rick lived a life marked by resilience, love, and quiet strength.
As a young boy, Rick battled polio and relearned how to walk and talk. He lost his father and best friend as a teenager—both experiences demanded he grow up quickly but also shaped the remarkable man he would become. Rick was a devoted husband who cherished his late wife, Fluffy, beyond measure, and a deeply loving father whose guidance helped shape his children into role models in their own right.
Rick's life was rich with talent and passion. He was a gifted musician who played bass guitar and sang backup vocals in a band, a songwriter, and a bowler with an impressive average. He was also an avid golfer with a respectable handicap and a brilliant chemical engineer who genuinely loved his work. But above all, Rick was known for his kindness, loyalty, and unwavering presence—he was always there for his family and friends, holding no grudges and harboring no hate.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Eva Nell Hatfield; his beloved wife, Fluffy Hatfield; his daughter, Krisana Wilson; and his brother, Robert Hatfield. Rick is survived by his children, Kimberley Coker and husband Milton, and Russell Hatfield and wife Kristi; his sisters, Jeanette Upshaw, Patricia Starnes and husband Ernie, Betty Hatfield, and Barbara Hatfield; his grandchildren, Tiffany, Brandon, Mallory, Tristin, Tyler, Bo, Wyatt, and Blaike; and his great-grandchildren, McKinna, Sofia, Kaylee, Rebecca, Ariana, Matthew, Lillian, Scarlett, Haisley, and Weston. He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
Rick lived a life of quiet greatness and left a legacy of love, strength, and laughter. He will be missed more than words can express. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Sunday, June 1st from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Kingwood Country Club. 2700 Lake Kingwood Trl, Kingwood TX 77339. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
