Richard Maurice Washmon

Richard Maurice Washmon, 70, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed from this world on April 12, 2024, in Dayton, Texas. Born on October 22, 1953, in Houston, Texas, Richard brought warmth and kindness wherever he went.

Richard's journey began with loving parents, James Ferguson Washmon and Ethel Louise Mallory Washmon. He blossomed into a fine individual, graduating from Smiley High School in 1972. For the past 25 years, Richard called Dayton home, having previously resided in Sheldon. His professional dedication shone brightly at Dixie Chemical for over two decades, reflecting his steadfast commitment to his work and community.

A man of diverse passions, Richard's love for music, particularly hard rock, resonated deeply within him. He carried a mischievous spark, balanced by a level-headed approach to life, earning him the reputation of a free spirit with a grounded soul. Fishing brought him solace, while nurturing his garden and collecting vintage model cars brought him joy. Christmas held a special place in his heart, igniting the festive spirit within him.

Known for his engaging conversations, Richard had a knack for connecting with others on a profound level. His interests ranged from diamond art to carpentry, showcasing his multifaceted talents. Generosity flowed naturally from his heart, as seen when he anonymously gifted a class ring to a neighbor in need. His selfless acts of kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Throughout his life, Richard remained a beacon of humor, finding joy in laughter even during challenging times. His protective nature extended to his beloved wife of 50 years, Jinnie Washmon, and his cherished daughters, Kim Dennis (Terry) and Emily Barrientos (Jorge). Richard's sisters, Ann Carnes (Larry), Kathy Niemeyer (Al), and Maureen "Mo" Bryan (Chester), along with his grandchildren, Hannah Dennis and Matthew Dennis, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, mourn his loss deeply. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and sister, Norma Jean Washmon.
