Rosie Lavern Cox was born November 11, 1944 in Apple Springs, Texas to parents, George Edward Owens and Rozell Townsend Owens. She passed away in Houston, Texas on December 29, 2025 at the age of 81. Rosie was born in Apple Springs but was raised in Groveton. She raised up her brother when she was just a teenager herself. Rosie was a lifelong employee of Foley’s Department Store before her retirement. Her greatest love was for her family and she touched so many of their lives with her positive attitude. Rosie loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Edward and Rozell Owens; husband, Oliver Hershal Cox Jr; brother, George E. Owens; granddaughters, Kellie Smith and Kimberly Smith. Rosie is survived by her children, Gary Wade Smith and wife Vickie, Curtis Wayne Smith and wife Belinda, and Deborah Jo Cox and husband Steven; grandchildren, Danny Wade Smith, William Messer, Curtis Smith Jr, Ryan Smith, Wesley Smith, Ashley Smith, Jaylyn Branch, Deja Pollard, Olivia Providence, and Cameron Cox; numerous great-grandchildren; niece, Kristine Meyers. The family will receive friends at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 11am-2pm.
