Obituary

Sammy Lee Fowler of Hardin, Texas was born September 4, 1965, and made his journey home on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the age of 60, welcomed home by God who had carried him all along.

Sammy loved life outdoors — hunting, fishing, and the open water of the lake were where his spirit felt most free. But more than anything, Sammy loved people. His soul was made of love, plain and simple, and he lived it out in everything he did. He was good as gold, in the oldest and truest sense of the word — if you needed something, and it was his last or his only, he would place it in your hands without a second thought. He never measured what he gave by what he had left. His mind was brilliant, sharp in ways that amazed the people around him, and he carried a gift for turbines that few could rival. He loved his crew like family, and he proved it every single day — always putting them first, always making sure they were safe, always bringing them home. To know Sammy was to be loved by him.

Through it all, Sammy’s constant companion was his best friend, BearBear Fowler — by his side day in and day out, through every step of his journey. Anyone who knew Sammy knew BearBear, too; theirs was a bond words can hardly capture, and BearBear’s steady presence and Sammy’s faith in God were what carried him each day.

Sammy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Sam and Margaret “Lil” Hewitt of Moss Hill, Texas.

Sammy is survived by his wife, Amanda Sumrall Fowler of Hardin, Texas; his children, Mason Fowler of Knoxville, Arkansas, Mallory Henderson of Mont Belvieu, Texas, and Madison Cason and husband Aaron of Marshall, Texas, along with their mother and a true friend to the end, Rhonda Ewell; and his stepchildren, Cortney Minnehan and husband Josh of Sulphur, Louisiana, Logan Sumrall and wife Amanda of Kingwood, Texas, and Brandon Sumrall and wife Avery of Old Winfree, Texas.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Abagayle Lane, Carson Lee, Rylan Brooke, Layla Claire, Amelia Kate “Millie,” Riot Scott, Icelynn Renae, and Rex Jamison; and Samantha Cadee, Skylar Marie, Amelia Marie, Scarlett Grace, and Thea Layne.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be determined.
