Ronald Eugene Godejohn, affectionately known as “Stoney,” passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 62.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Texas on November 27, 1962, Stoney was the cherished son of the late Charles and Lillie Butler Godejohn. He graduated from Tarkington High School before dedicating 20 years to the Liberty County Maintenance Department, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and good humor. So much so, Stoney often joked that Liberty County “was never the same after he left” — and by all accounts, he was absolutely right.
Stoney treasured life’s simple pleasures. He could frequently be found on his front porch with his signature Dr. Pepper in hand, waving and greeting everyone passing by. A natural-born people person, he never met a stranger—once you were his friend, you were family for life. Stoney loved hunting, fishing, sharing jokes, and he especially enjoyed playful banter—often calling Kim “the Boss” when she came by to drive him to appointments and take care of him.
Even during his illness, Stoney carried his characteristic smile and warmth, a true testament to his resilient spirit.
Stoney is survived by his beloved sisters, Kim Swan and husband Lonnie, Sandra Wells and husband Mark, and brother Kevin Godejohn; nieces and nephews, Michael Wells, Brad Wells, Shelly Wilson, Deidra Wilson, Bryan Wells, Justin Wells, Jennifer Hill, Cody Wells, Kelli Warren, Anthony Brooks, Cory Godejohn, Brittany Brooks, and Cayla Godejohn; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews, other family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Lillie Butler Godejohn, grandparents B. A. and Elsie Godejohn, and James and Lillie Butler; great-niece, Ryleigh Wells; and sister-in-law, Lonelda Godejohn.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 11th from 4pm-8pm at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland. Stoney’s funeral will be held the following day, Saturday, July 12th at 11am in the Pace-Stancil Chapel in Cleveland with Bro. George Hayden officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Shade Cemetery in Tarkington. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Godejohn, Lonnie Swan, Brad Wells, Cory Godejohn, Chance Morgan, Bryan Wells, Anthony Brooks and Mark Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be Hub Purswell, Wayne Wilson, Michael Wells, Justin Wells and Cody Wells.
Stoney’s legacy of warmth, laughter, and unwavering friendship lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
