Obituary for Susie Etter McDonald

Susie Etter McDonald, 75, of Dayton, Texas, passed away on October 26, 2025. She was born on September 10, 1950, in Houston, Texas, to parents James Monroe Leggett and Mattie Vecile Leach Leggett.

For the past twenty years, Susie made her home in Dayton, after many happy years in Channelview. A devoted homemaker, she found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She loved to cook and poured her heart into creating a cherished family cookbook that blended her passion for food with her deep love for family history and tradition.

A retired drafting engineer, Susie was a talented crafter and seamstress who could make just about anything with her hands. She loved learning and exploring new things—especially when it came to faith and understanding different religions. Susie was also happiest when she was outdoors. She loved to fish and looked forward to family reunions, where everyone came together to eat, laugh, and love one another. And if there was music playing, you could bet Susie would be dancing—her energy and laughter lighting up any room she walked into.

Above all, Susie loved her family fiercely. She was the heart of her home—always there to guide, care for, and love her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was simply being surrounded by the people she loved most.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Monroe Leggett, Jr., and her sister. She is survived by her sons Eddie Naron, Beau McDonald and wife Crystal, Duke McDonald and wife Tomasita, James McDonald, and Steven Wright; daughters Vickie Luther-Pace, Tammie Naron, and Martha Biggs; sister Pattie Parks; and grandchildren Ricky, Billy, and Jeneva Naron, Suezena Naron, Chloe and Paige McDonald, Evan Julian, and Natasha McDonald; along with great-grandchildren Ava Naron, Jace Naron, Anyla Naron, Amiya and David Vantine, Saige George, Sophia Naron, Stella Hardin, and numerous bonus grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susie’s life on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 4:00 p.m.

Susie will always be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, her creativity, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless hearts she touched along the way.
